Devices that will help improve health in 2015

2015 will be a difficult year for everyone, so it's time to become stronger and healthier. We have compiled a digest of smart gadgets that can measure your heart rate, help you cope with stress, and develop a workout schedule. The short list includes fitness trackers, smart watches and even scales with Bluetooth.

    Jawbone up move

In early November, Jawbone introduced two new fitness trackers. The flagship UP3 received a huge set of sensors (from a body temperature sensor to a sensor responsible for analyzing the human body composition) and a solid price of $ 179. For those who need a regular pedometer with a calorie counting function, Jawbone has prepared Move - an affordable fitness tracker in the form of a puck.

For $ 50, the UP Move buyer gets a small device that either attaches to clothing (with a clip) or wrist (thanks to a silicone strap). The tracker synchronizes with the Smart Coach app (Android and iOS), takes into account daily activity, monitors sleep phases and works for up to 6 months - thanks to replaceable batteries eliminating the need to charge once a week.

Instead of a full screen, UP Move uses an LED circle: the backlight can display time and clearly demonstrate how many percent are left until the goal is completed for the day. The device is protected from water, but not waterproof - this is expected for a budget tracker. UP Move will be released in five colors - purple, black, yellow, red and gray.

    Sony SmartBand Talk

After the release of fairly simple fitness trackers, Sony has grown to a hybrid of a smart bracelet and a smart watch. SmartBand Talk are equipped with a permanently on e-ink screen, microphone, speaker and volume keys. The main advantage compared to competitors is the ability to answer calls without having to remove the phone from your pocket. The microphone sensitivity and speaker volume reserve are enough to not bring SmartBand Talk to your mouth: difficulties can arise only in noisy places (for example, in the subway), where it will not be easy to hear the sound from the bracelet.

In all other respects, SmartBand Talk is also at its best: it interacts with the proprietary Lifelog application, wakes up with vibration during the required phase of sleep, withstands going to the shower (but not swimming), and also lives without an outlet for three days - an unattainable result for most smart watches. Filling the battery up to 100% lasts about 40 minutes - you can not even remember any night charges.

The only serious drawback of SmartBand Talk is that it works exclusively with Android devices (version 4.4 and higher, Bluetooth 4.0 LE): if the Japanese made the gadget multi-platform, it would have caused much more resonance.

    Basis peak

The list of sensors and sensors is one of the most important features for wearable gadgets. Basis Peak has a rather strict appearance (no overly bright elements), but this is not the main thing: the essence is in functionality. The tracker monitors the pulse of the owner 24 hours a day, monitors the quality of sleep (and not just its duration), records the intensity of perspiration and saves the number of calories burned. Of course, without a standard pedometer it also could not do here - the distance traveled is displayed on an e-ink-screen with an economical backlight. The claimed autonomy is encouraging - 4-5 days depending on the load.

Basis Peak guarantees performance when going to the shower and swimming neatly in the pool - the specified water resistance is at 5 atmospheres. The device’s pluses list also includes support for the two most popular mobile OSs: owners of devices running Android and iOS can simply download the application, connect to Peak and carefully analyze the data.

    Mio alpha 2

The presentation of the second generation of smart heart rate monitors was held in Las Vegas: as part of CES-2015, Mio released a new version of a wrist accessory designed to track activity during training. Compared with the first version, Alpha 2 got a backlight, an advanced stopwatch and an accelerometer, but the main feature has been preserved: this gadget measures the heart rate with minimal error without uncomfortable chest devices.

Alpha 2 syncs with many fitness apps for iOS and Android: Mio Go, Strava, RunKeeper, and MapMyRun. Heart rate data is transmitted to the smartphone along with information about the pace of running and distance traveled. The Alpha 2's water resistance is typical - shower, sink and careful (while undesirable) diving in the pool. The battery capacity is enough for 20 hours with the heart rate monitoring turned on, and without it, the device can work up to three months.

    Zensorium tinke

An unusual gadget for monitoring health is connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth. After that, the compact Tinke translucent the skin of the finger with an emitter, and the sensor monitors the blood flow in the capillaries: all this is necessary to determine the frequency of inspiration / expiration, measure the pulse and determine the variability of the heart rhythm.

Tinke has two main modes. The first, called Vita, monitors the intensity of training and indicates how to distribute the load - relax or add activity. The second mode is Zen: Tinke analyzes breathing and suggests a new rhythm that will help to cope with stress. Of course, all medical indicators are stored in the statistics section. Tinke weighs only 11 grams and fits perfectly in a pocket for a lighter, which is on almost all jeans. One charge device lasts for 100 measurements.

    Runtastic libra

Ordinary floor scales gain intelligence after connecting to a smartphone (iOS, Android from 4.3) and registering with the Runtastic system. The fourth link is added to the standard “got up - wait - remembered weight” algorithm: the application gives a summary of the ratio of adipose tissue, muscle mass, bone mass and tissues in the body. Libra also displays the percentage of fluid in the body, prescribes the mass index and calculates how many calories a user should consume per day. For the most motivated, the application has a “goal” item: there are tasks to lose weight or get rid of adipose tissue.

Smart scales support a maximum weight of 180 kilograms (that is, even Vasily Utkin, who has lost weight, can use it) and work with 8 unique accounts. At the same time, Libra themselves determine who got up on them, even if there are other participants in the Runtastic system in the Bluetooth zone.
