Sony showed a new prototype VR-helmet Morpheus
Sony continues to develop the Morpheus virtual reality helmet, a prototype of which was first shown a year ago at GDC 2014. Then the company said that it had been experimenting with virtual reality helmets for several years. In 2010, engineers made several prototypes using Sony components and PlayStation Move controllers. These controllers are motion sensitive. The player can take one in his hand - and use it as a weapon or sports equipment in the game.
Over the past year, several modifications have been made to the project . So, the size of the OLED display has been increased from 5 "to 5.7", the resolution has remained the same 1920x1080. The new size corresponds to the screen of the Oculus Rift Developers' Kit 2 (DK2), although there is a higher resolution.
The screen refresh rate in Morpheus has been increased from 60 to 120 Hz, the latency during image display has been reduced to 18 ms. Field of view increased from 90 ° to almost 100 °.
For more accurate tracking of head movements, three more LEDs were added to the design (nine are used in total).
Morpheus retail sales start dates have also been announced: the first half of 2016. True, the price has not yet been reported.
In general, this year may be the release of several helmets and virtual reality glasses from different manufacturers. It is hoped that the consumer version of Oculus Rift will finally be released. HTC and Valve are working on the Vive model, and Samsung has ported the Gear VR virtual reality gadget to the Galaxy S6 mobile phones, so by the time Morpheus arrives on the market it will be cramped.
