HTC Launches Pre-ordered Wireless Kit for Vive Virtual Reality Helmet

HTC, the virtual reality helmet maker HTC Vive, is launching a pre-order of the Wireless Wireless Kit, which can be installed on existing helmets. Fans of virtual reality "freedom from wires" will cost $ 220. True order can be made only in the Chinese segment of Vive .

The manufacturer of the wireless adapter is TPCAST, which developed the transmitter as part of the Vive X program.

Vive X is HTC's project in which it invested about $ 100 million in BP startups in order to provide a technological breakthrough in this direction. The program started this spring and, as you can see, has already borne fruit.

In September of this year we talkedabout another development of wireless VR helmets by Quark VR startup. Unlike TPCAST, their work was aimed at all existing helmets, including Vive's competitors represented by Oculus Rift, Playstation VR and others.

HTC does not disclose specifications. A limited number of Wireless Kit-kits will also be sold, which can be regarded as the next stage of alpha testing of the new technology. It is likely that the new product uses a video stream optimization system to reduce the load on the wireless channel, which cannot boast of high bandwidth on the background of the cable.

Creating a Wireless Kit was just a matter of time. A heap of wires that fetter movement and restricts the user in his actions, from the very beginning seemed a relic of the early prototypes, which, unfortunately, survived to the stage of widespread sales.

Without exception, manufacturers noted the difficulty of creating a stably working device that could provide wireless connection and power to the VR helmet of any manufacturer. The first steps towards wireless BP headsets are made by HTC, which some time ago was considered the “second” company after its main competitor and the oldest player in the market - Oculus Rift.
