Moto X Play: a bright smartphone with a capacious battery

Hello friends! We recently told you about the X Force , the flagship of the Moto line of smartphones with an unbreakable screen. Now we are moving smoothly to another model - Moto X Play. This is a nice and very “tenacious” device with color interchangeable panels in the kit. All the details about the gadget right under the cut: feel free to drop by and ask questions in the comments.

    Design

Moto X Play immediately “catches” with its design. The front panel is decorated with 2.5D glass slightly curved around the edges, which under direct light creates a visual effect of a spreading drop of water. The back panel of expressiveness is attached to a removable cover with a rubber coating, which by default can be either black or white - depending on which Moto X Play you choose in the store.

Together with a standard cover two additional are included in the package of delivery. If you choose black Moto X Play, they will be dark purple and dark blue. And if X Play is white, then in the box you will find the orange and light green panels. You can change them depending on your mood: it’s a trifle, but someone will probably be pleased. And no fingerprints remain on such material - also a plus!

At the same time, the design of the smartphone does not imply that the user will remove the battery on their own. Although experienced enthusiasts and service center specialists can easily replace the battery, small screws are right under the cover. But remember that this will invalidate the warranty.

Two nanoSIM and one microSD memory card can be inserted into the drawer tray on the top end of the Moto X Play. The volume keys and the power button are on the right. And the latter with a corrugated coating, which helps to quickly find it to the touch.

The device does not have water protection, like the Moto G, but there is a water-repellent coating. Of course, X Play will not survive a full bath, but rain or even an accidentally spilled cup of water is not an obstacle for him.

    Screen

One could say that the Moto X Play has its own flagship screen, but for the current “top-end” smartphones, it’s not actual Full HD, but the resolution of 2560x1440. Here, 5.5 inches in diagonal with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. Which, however, does not prevent us from getting great pleasure from the color rendering quality of the bright IPS-matrix with wide viewing angles. You can comfortably work with this screen even on a sunny day on the street, and it is equally suitable for any task: from watching videos and mobile games, to quickly editing documents on the way to work.

There is also an interesting “feature” called ActiveNotifications. If you take your smartphone out of your pocket or take it in your hand after it lays on the table for a while, then a clock and notifications of missed calls, received letters and incoming messages will immediately appear on the dark screen.

    Performance

Performance Moto X Play is at a confident average level. The device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit chipset with eight cores operating at the maximum frequency of 1.7 GHz for this SoC, and Adreno 405 graphics. Plus 2 GB of RAM.

The results in the AnTuTu 6.0.1 benchmark are about two times more modest than the flagship Moto X Force: 44,000 points versus almost 84,000. In 3D tests, the Moto X Play scored 370 and 9170 points. However, synthetic tests do not know anything about how much time the developers spent on optimizing the system. In this regard, really a lot of work has been done: Android 6.0 works very smoothly, the smartphone does not start to go crazy if you launch a dozen applications at once or open many tabs in the browser. And for most games from the Play Market, there should be enough performance margin, except, perhaps, the most voracious and demanding.

The amount of internal memory is 16 GB, of which 11 GB is available to the user. It is enough for all the necessary programs and games, and photos and videos can be copied to a memory card, the maximum amount of which can reach 128 GB. Moto X Play is also equipped with an NFC-module and can connect to Wi-Fi networks both at 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Android 6.0 is already available for all four Moto smartphones sold in Russia. In general, this is an absolutely standard version of the Google OS, which is complemented by a couple of our proprietary "chips". For example, the modified gallery and camera interfaces.

    Camera

The Moto X Play camera is built on the basis of the 21-megapixel Sony Exmor IMX230 sensor, the lens' constant aperture is f / 2.0. Plus, 192 phase detection autofocus sensors help a lot. In daylight, it’s easy to shoot sharp and “live” shots with very natural color reproduction and excellent detail. In general, in terms of quality, they are quite comparable with the frames issued by the flagship devices. Is that a little more noise in the dark parts of the frame. Well and, of course, optical stabilization is not provided in X Play.

With a lack of lighting, the noise becomes more noticeable, but working with the camera is still comfortable. Well, when there is not enough light at all, then a double flash will always come to the rescue. Of course, there is also a front camera: its resolution is 5 megapixels. Moto X Play is not a selfie phone, but without decent self-portraits the gadget will not leave its owner.

Here it is appropriate to recall one more proprietary “feature” of Moto: the ability to turn on the smartphone’s camera by simply shaking it slightly. It saves a lot of time when you urgently need to photograph something important.

    Battery

The large screen of the smartphone gives an excellent opportunity to provide the device with a capacious battery. Alas, not everyone uses this, but we tried to squeeze the maximum: Moto X Play is equipped with batteries with a capacity of 3630 mAh. Employees of the Moscow office of Lenovo, who use this device as the main one, report that, on average, a full charge lasts for a day “with a tail”. With an economical approach, you can achieve better results.

Well, if you operate with mean, but clear figures, then the user can count on about 5 hours of mobile games with maximum brightness or 13-14 hours in video playback mode. These are not record levels, but they are significantly higher than the average.

Another nice bonus is fast charging up to 100% in just 1.5 hours when using the special TurboCharger adapter. It is not included, but the usual adapter from Moto X Play is notable for something. It has two USB inputs at once, so you can charge two smartphones from one outlet if you have an additional cable at hand.

Where to buy and how much?

X Play along with three more Moto smartphones went on sale in Russia almost three weeks ago - March 1. You can buy a gadget in the official Lenovo online store , as well as in the Megafon, Euroset, Svyaznoy and Know-How stores. Regardless of which option you choose, the Moto X Play will cost exactly 29,990 rubles, and it will be delivered to you absolutely free.

That's all, thanks for watching! If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them in the comments.
