BMW proposes to install streetlights with a socket for charging electric vehicles on city streets

Electric cars are good for everyone, but so far the infrastructure for servicing electric cars is not too developed even in the most advanced countries and cities. Despite the plans of the same Tesla to expand the network of charging stations for their cars, such points are still not enough and will not be enough in the near future.

This is precisely the lack of electric gas stations - one of the main obstacles to the global spread of electric vehicles. Perhaps BMW’s proposal will help remove this obstacle. And the proposal is to equip street lights with a connector for charging electric vehicles. The proposal will be implemented in a test project, which is scheduled to be launched next year, in Munich, Germany.

Here BMW will enter into a partnership agreement with local authorities. Under the contract, the company will install cost-effective LED lights “Light and Charge”, combined with BMW's ChargeNow charging stations. Charging the battery will not be free for owners of electric cars - you have to pay for everything. Payment is planned to be carried out using the application for a mobile device.

In addition to the design of flashlights - charging stations, the company also developed software that helps electric car drivers find a parking place and the nearest charging station. Investments were also made in Justpark.com and SLAM projects.

BMW has developed highly advanced electric car models, including the urban i3 and the i8 hybrid. If in Germany there was a developed infrastructure for servicing such cars, perhaps electric cars would become much more popular than now.

As for the compatibility of charging stations of various manufacturers, they are also trying to solve this issue. So BMW executives recently met with Tesla Motors executives to discuss this issue. By mutual agreement, the BMW and Tesla charging stations will be compatible with electric vehicles from these manufacturers. Perhaps in the near future other automakers will join the solution to the issue , who plan to produce and produce hybrids and "clean" electric cars.
