Kúla - 3D for all cameras

    Good day!

Íris Ólafsdóttir — an electrical engineer from the Technical University of Denmark founded Kúla in 2011, and since then has worked hard to turn a conventional camera into 3D, to the delight of all photographers. As a result, the development team she assembled created a curious pair of lenses - Kúla Deeper, which easily attaches to your DSLR camera and Kúla Bebe for your smartphone.

    How to use Kúla Deeper?

    Everything is extremely simple:

    1. Take a picture with a camera with a Kúla Deeper lens attached to it
    2. View the results immediately on your camera using the Kúla Stereo Viewer. In principle, you can use other devices for raw photos, such as a stereoscope and virtual reality devices (Oculus Rift, Google cardboard, Avegant Glyph, etc.).
    3. For a more interested audience, there is Kúlacode software, with which you can convert your photos and videos into the appropriate format.

    How to use Kúla Bebe?

    1. Attach Kúla Bebe to your phone and take a picture
    2. Choose any way to view photos right away using the app that comes with Kúla Bebe, or CinemaBox Kúla.

    And how does it work?

Kúla Deeper and Kúla Bebe use high-precision mirrors that reflect the photographed object from two, slightly different viewing angles. Thus, we get, as it were, a double photograph, on which you can see the image both from one viewing angle and from another. Combining these two images, we get a 3D shot (or video).

Kúla's CinemaBox or the anaglyphic red-blue glasses that come with Kúla Bebe will help us see the result of our creative photographic impulses in 3D. Anaglyph glasses and stereoviewer are also supplied with Kúla Deeper.
But, according to the creators, there are a lot of opportunities for viewing the resulting photo:

    Software. Kúlacode

Kúlacode uses advanced image processing and correction algorithms, and the resulting one is exported to various 3D formats:

    • 3D TV. Kúlacode converts stereoscopic images to 3D TV format.
    • Kúla's CinemaBox. To view on a smartphone. It is recommended that you use a high resolution display phone.
    • Anaglyph glasses. For lovers of the 80s.
    • Wigglegrams. Animated pictures giving the effect of depth.
    • Stereoviewer You need to bring it to your eyes to see the 3D images you just made.
    • Cross eyed. Some people think this is the best way to see a 3D image. It uses the ability of the eyes to change the focal length.

    Specifications

Kúla Deeper and Kúla Bebe are made of four high-precision mirrors with a reflection coefficient of about 94%, resulting in very high definition images and videos.

Kúla Deeper , is immediately attached to the camera lens with a diameter of Ø77mm, for smaller lens diameters a adapter ring is required. Adapter rings are available for lenses with diameters of Ø52, Ø62, Ø67 and Ø72mm.

Kúla Bebe comes with attachments for phones, see the table below.

    Cross eyed

As mentioned above, this is a way to see a 3D image using the ability of your own eyes to change the focal length.

If you want to try, follow these steps:
    1. Look at the image.
    2. Keeping your eyes on the image, begin to shift the focal length closer to the nose (squint your eyes).
    3. Two parts of the image will begin to overlap one another, forming a third that appears in the center.
    4. Focus on the image that appears and focus on it. If everything worked out for you, then the image in the center you will see three-dimensional.

wigglegram is a convenient way to view a picture, since you don’t need to use any special devices for this.
