    This is a rather funny story about how I was deliberately misled, moreover, twice and as a result I “burned” not a little not a lot, but somewhere around $ 15,000, just in a month. And I felt that it would be so, but decided to take this path. For what? For the sake of experience? No, what are you. As they say, only two things are infinite - the Universe and human stupidity, although I am not sure about the Universe. Here most likely I wanted to check how much you can trust your intuition. And she didn't let me down, but that's so silly ...

    It all started with the fact that before the New Year, we, as always, in our modest company, made successful sales of dedicated servers - Black Fridays, Cyber ​​Monday, New Year and New Year discounts. And we offer dedicated servers for rent in the data centers of our partners in the Netherlands and the USA for 6 years, after we have completely left Ukraine due to many factors , and will soon be located in England. So speculative traders - we will make money for you too! After all, we don’t have a whole “vyser” (and this is a technical term) outdated and not very configurations on the website, as it is fashionable for some hosting providers who, instead of offering cost-effective, “hover” to the people whatever, without thinking and not realizing why. And if data centers can be understood - there is a large "zoo" of outdated iron precisely for these reasons and it needs to be put somewhere. Then some of the providers ...

    In short, we are not like that. We offer essentially one platform, really magical, and at a price two times lower than for the same and with the same quality as others, due to the fact that our entire turnover is in it one and that our margin is minimal, which is a huge plus for customers, and who cares - he goes to .... In VPS, and not simple, but with dedicated drives , superior in performance to outdated and not very entry-level dedicated servers.

    During this period, we had a lot of large orders, sometimes administrators advise us to their customers and get their% for this, setting customers a price more expensive than in our purchase. I am always cautious of large orders, because when a large client leaves, a huge downtime is formed immediately, which is almost impossible to dispose of faster than a month, and in some cases the situation can be even worse. For this reason, if I can easily give 15% discounts for an order for several servers, then for an order of 30 rather expensive servers, the discount will be less than 10%, with the exception of cases of long-term contractual obligations, or it will be impossible at all with a monthly payment option.

    As a result, right after black Friday, we received an order for 30 servers of our basic configuration from one of the administrators for his client, and the location was not important to him, but we decided to provide the infrastructure in the Netherlands, since in this location we have maximum demand :

    I never believed in contextual advertising, in terms of successful sales of dedicated servers, it just won’t pay off, even in a year, even in two. Well, this will not bring any knowledge. That is why our advertising is knowledge and experience, building new solutions in which we invest free working capital. And significant. It’s better to give resources to developers for free and provide yourself with an additional rating than to invest in the context. It will be more effective.

    Back in 2010, I had the experience of using such advertising, though from Yandex. Then there was a huge problem of ad clicks, although it is worth noting that Yandex returned the money. And the advertisement from Yandex, in some form, but worked. But not in that, of course, at that moment. True setup was pretty simple and straightforward.

    After that, from time to time I tried to watch Google Adwords, and even carried out a small advertising campaign. And then, at the time of the release of 30 servers, I receive a letter:

    Further it was even more interesting. I honestly, like when working with Yandex, picked up keywords and made a normal-looking ad with honestly specified information, without any search delusions. It turned out that in order to achieve a result subsequently, ads need not one, but a whole group. Spent a lot of time on this, with sophisticated Google filters, and the logic of their system was quite difficult to understand, although perhaps their system was too smart for me. In Yandex, as far as I remember, everything was much simpler, and the result could be better. In any case, it seemed to me at that time ... But I already replenished my account by almost $ 2000, and all the more so because I needed an audience from Ukraine (40% of our users from this country), so I had to stop choosing Google.

    In the meantime, I just used the advertising budget, because I just realized that advertising from Google would not bring me anything good.     And now, literally the day after the end of the budget, all of a sudden I’ll get a call from Google ... Google. And he pretends that “we accidentally noticed here that you started advertising with us and would like to offer you help in more effective setting up of the advertising campaign by our specialists”. Of course, by chance! After all, so often clients come to them who are able to throw out 50,000 UAH (10-15 average salaries in Ukraine) per week. No, to call on the same day, to help before a person lowers the advertising budget to nowhere ... They have so many customers there! Incredibly many ... But that is not the question. It was already clear that I don’t intend to pay these good people anymore, since they are not just ineffective, they are 10 times worse than Yandex, because they made the settings so abstruse that even their specialists can not cope with them! But more on that later.

    I describe the situation vividly and colorfully on the phone and generally say that I think about their programmers and in what “hell I wish them to burn” (if anyone works on Google, do not exact, it's all figurative and in fact I'm not offended , but just emotionally describe the work of their system), after such a magical work of their system. And how can it be that Google works so sucks in terms of context, and this is a technical term that Yandex, which seems to be not in the first place, turns out to be better in context. In any case, there for your money, at least you don’t force your brain like that with the settings of the advertising system. They could offer a manager right away if help was needed.
