Extraordinary Zaryadye: how we automated the park

    Have you been to the new Zaryadye park? However, even if you are not from Moscow, you probably heard about him. After all, this is a flagship park of a national scale and a real attraction of modern Moscow. Here, heritage sites of the 16th century coexist with innovative architecture and high-tech media complexes. We will talk about them today. After all, we know everything firsthand - we ourselves supplied equipment and set up.

    Perhaps the best construction site in Russia is with a view of the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral. Eye-catching!

    If suddenly someone did not hear

    The construction of the Zaryadye park began in 2015. In Moscow, this is the first large-scale project in more than 50 years to create a unique space near the walls of the Kremlin at the junction of a diverse natural landscape, high technology and architecture. Zaryadye, the first park built within the borders of the Boulevard Ring, has already become a center of attraction for residents and guests of the capital.

    History of Zaryadye
    The name of the park comes from the name of one of the oldest districts of Moscow, Zaryadye, whose history has more than 8 centuries. At different times, Zaryadye was the center of trade, the embassy quarter, and even slums.

    In the twentieth century, it was supposed to place one of the Moscow skyscrapers here, but the project was not completed. On the foundation laid in 1967, the hotel "Russia" was built, at that time - the largest in the world.

    At the beginning of the XXI century, the Moscow government decided to dismantle a huge, very dilapidated and obsolete building. In 2006, the hotel was closed and dismantled. In its place, it was planned to build a new hotel and office complex with parking. But in early 2012, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a modern park would be set up in the historical Zaryadye district.

    In the first stage of the international competition for the creation of the landscape-architectural concept of the park, applications from 27 countries, from 420 companies united in 90 consortia were considered. The jury included leading experts in architecture and urbanism, among them Saskia Sassen, professor at Columbia University, Anthony Vives-i-Thomas, vice-mayor of Barcelona, and Marta Thorne, executive director of the Pritzker Prize. The victory was won by an international consortium, including architects of the bureau Diller Scofidio + Renfro (New York), specialists in the landscape workshop Hargreaves Associates (New York) and urbanists from Citymakers (Moscow).
    The construction of the Zaryadye park began in 2015. In 2017, the construction of the park was completed.

    But “Zaryadye” is not only landscapes , it is also a very complex engineering and IT infrastructure, which helps organize modern educational programs and interactive vacations.

    In principle, we do not immediately show the finished version - go and see for yourself. Only techno hardcore!

    This creates the best viewing platform in Moscow - the floating bridge of the Zaryadye park: a V-shaped console located 13 meters above the river. It offers panoramic views of the Kremlin, the embankment and the park itself.

    Do it suddenly

    If you have ever worked with Russian projects, and even of such importance, then you probably know what the deadlines are and how they relate to them. A five-year-old rests for three years compared to how much we did our part of the Zaryadye automation. So, for example, the entire project, from the way we heard about it, took two years to launch, of which one and a half - work directly in the fields. We, the specialists of LANIT-Integration , collected and launched the Media complex “Flight” in 9 months, while in international practice such work takes 2 years or more.

    Installation of equipment for the media complex "Time Machine".

    Soon there will be people instead of forests. The most real.

    And only the views continued to delight us.

    "Flight" in a dream and in reality

    The media complex is a cinema with an acoustically transparent projection screen in the form of a segment of a sphere 11 meters high and a specialized platform with spectator seats that have 6 degrees of freedom (you can sit as comfortable).

    The highlight of the attraction is that before the start of the show program, the platform is in a horizontal position and the audience simply enter the room and sit in places. When the show begins, the platform rises and rotates 90 degrees. After that, everyone is left alone with stunning views of Moscow, and the multi-channel sounding and special effects system, working simultaneously with the video sequence and the platform turns, gives a real sense of flight.

    This is what the media complex looked like before our team took up the installation.

    Going to "Flight", you can rush through the fountains of VDNH, smelling fresh, filled with water splashes of air, over the Kremlin and the estate of Kuskovo, to be in the epicenter of fireworks, to see the balloon festival from a bird's eye view and much more. For the technical side, 3 projectors with a resolution of 4K are responsible - each, 4 specialized video servers, more than 80 tons of mechanics and hydraulics. And over 16 kW of sound to help.

    Spider-Man helped us, without it it would have been obviously tight with wires.

    Do you think such a system is fragile? Nothing like this! Safety has become a top priority. All attractions in Russia undergo mandatory certification, receive relevant documents, coupons, etc. "Flight" was tested on the upper bar. After completing the installation and tuning, the first in the seats flew over virtual Moscow ... sandbags. And as a standard, these are bags weighing 80 kg - like a tight person, but we decided that the load should be above the norm and put 136 kg each - the maximum bar.

    Here are our first testers - sandbags

    High-altitude installers send greetings to you! Pay attention to our boring forests.

    And after sandbags we flew ourselves, the LANIT leadership and even some of the Moscow leadership. What can I say - complete delight. By the way, the first time we were still present on the site and saw how groups of visitors came out - everyone applauds after the “rental”.

    Stronger than lasting

    Delight is caused by special special effects: splashes, wind, smells. In fact, everything is quite trivially sprayed here. But the video was amazing - a complete sense of flight (the video is the work of the Red Square company, for which many thanks to them). If you have a fear of heights, then think twice before taking off over Moscow in the media complex - everything is very realistic.

    Post-industrial portrait in the interiors.

    And this is the platform with which we will “fly” over Moscow. Are you ready ?!

    Everyone fastened their belts? And even a good mood stocked up? Then let's go!

    "Time Machine": we walked in such a way ...

    The second media complex, the installation of which we were engaged in, is the “Time Machine”. This cool multi-functional presentation pavilion is located in the building of the Zaryadye media center in the vicinity of Polet.

    The very media center is an inside look: on the left side of the front desk for visitors and ticket sales there is a flight center above the capital, and on the right - time travel.

    Getting into the “Time Machine”, you find yourself in the very center of the history of the formation and development of our country. The feeling of complete immersion arises due to the fact that the image is displayed on the floor surface and a cylindrical screen with a diameter of 16.5 and a height of 5 meters. A multi-channel sound reinforcement system, special effects generators (smoke, smell, wind) and the possibility of interactive interaction with the video sequence create the necessary atmosphere. In the future, the premises of the media complex can be used for a variety of events, for example, for educational programs, exhibitions and presentations.

    The bags came in handy here too.

    A projection system is used as a display system for the media complex, and using specialized media servers and show program management software, projection systems are stitched together, a multi-channel sound reinforcement system, interactive interaction, and special effects are controlled. "Time Machine" is equipped with a specialized system for the hearing impaired.

    This is not smoke on the site, but the very special effects.

    The nervous system of the media complex - an inside look.

    33 projectors, 10 specialized media servers, 26 specialized tracking video cameras and more than 20 kW of sound are responsible for all this.

    While they dined in Ancient Russia, our people mounted and checked the equipment.

    This is not just a media complex, but a story about huge multimedia opportunities, a unique platform for the embodiment of the most daring ideas of television people.

    Everyone who wants to go on a trip to Mashina Vremya cannot do without a “briefing”: before visiting, be sure to watch the video on how the video was created. The film about the history of Moscow was shot by Channel One. Already watched? Then - go!

    Moving on the “Time Machine”, you can not only look at the capital from space ...

    But also walk along Abrikosova, turn onto Vinogradnaya ... and find yourself in the very heart of Moscow of the 19th century.

    By the way, about learning

    Zaryadye Park was not originally conceived exclusively as a relaxation park. First of all, this is a place for enlightening, developing and satisfying the curiosity of people of all ages. Our company acted as a contractor for the equipment of numerous laboratories, video walls, interactive kiosks throughout the park.

    The entire territory of the park is presented on the video card: it remains only to choose places to visit, relax before a walk and on the road.

    You can buy tickets to media complexes or educational programs at the interactive kiosk.

    The “smart” part of the project was implemented, for example, in the “Preservation Embassy” pavilion, where in the florarium zone you can enjoy views of remote corners of Russia through a special viewing window. An LED screen with a pixel pitch of 1.2 mm, dimensions 5.5x3.1 meters, with a specialized optical coating and a sound reinforcement system really give the same “window” effect to other parts of Russia.

    And from our “window” the Russian steppe is visible. You don’t even have to leave anywhere.

    In addition to this effect, screens can be used during seminars and conferences: just connect the source of media content (for example, a laptop) to the corresponding architectural interface.

    In the Zapovednik Embassy itself there are 4 classrooms, a real, powerfully equipped biological laboratory and a conference room where training events are regularly held. The rooms are equipped with everything necessary for the demonstration of training materials, including specialized equipment in the biological laboratory, projection systems, interactive whiteboards, video conferencing systems and wireless content broadcasting.

    Studying or listening to speakers during conferences is a pleasure ...

    And providing simultaneous translation is another.

    All pavilions have a Digital Signage system that provides visitors with information and navigation support, while being also part of the design of these pavilions. Technical details: more than 50 information screens, including interactive kiosks and video walls, more than 60 speakers.

    By the way, about curiosity - you probably have questions about the famous “Glass Crust” over the Grand Amphitheater of the park. We have nothing to do with it, but as engineers, we could not help but find out what kind of mysterious roof a small world is. This is a metal frame made of glass triangles, under which there is a part of the seats for spectators of the Big Amphitheater and an observation deck. The miracle roof will provide a temperature several degrees higher than on the street. For winter, it’s the very thing, and so that the summer is not hot, a ventilation system is provided.

    That's how the Glass Bark was created.

    It was hot

    Needless to say, the project turned out to be very difficult for us. Judge for yourself.

    1. Zaryadye Media Center combines the two media complexes described by us and the entire IT infrastructure of the park.
    2. The Flight Media Complex, weighing more than 80 tons, is located above the underground parking and has no external walls. The installation project was unique.
    3. The total number of pixels of media content for Time Machine is 62 681 104.
    4. Over 360,000,000 - the total number of pixels of all unique video surfaces.
    5. More than 55 kW - the total power of the speaker systems in the media center, the installation-labyrinth "Ice Cave" and the scientific and educational center "Reservation Embassy".
    6. More than 18,000 people / hour - labor costs for the development of project documentation.

    The picture very accurately conveys our condition when we found out about the timing

    Want to know what we did back in Zaryadye?
    A complete list of everything that hands and heads attached to, or rather, the employees of LANIT-Integration equipped the equipment :
    • Media center of the park;
    • Media complex “Flight” and pre-show;
    • media complex “Time Machine” and pre-show;
    • Digital Signage system in the media center, “Ice Cave” and “Conservation Area”;
    • Entrance zone "Moscow Now";
    • Media Studio “Glavkino. Children in Zaryadye;
    • Room for meetings and discussions;
    • Four classrooms;
    • Laboratory
    • Four workrooms;
    • Negotiation room;
    • Office space and director’s office.

    There were some oddities. For example, we were accused of taking “testers” for doom. Since equipping media complexes is a serious matter related to the health and safety of people, we did not only provide technical instruction, but also trained the park staff in working with emergency situations: how to seat spectators, how to help them leave the room, how to control - all these processes do not allow liberties on the part of the park workers and visitors themselves. So, someone decided that for training we take ours and ours. But in fact, we invited volunteers in exchange for a session in each media complex.

    For two years we worked around the clock and seven days a week, not really even noticing the changing seasons. And the Zaryadye park taught us the main lesson: to believe in ourselves and not be afraid of deadlines or disruptions from suppliers. Now we know that with honor we can do such projects.

    For those who want to become part of our team, there are just a few vacancies at Lanit Integration

    After such techno-beauty, any salute fades.

    Have you already been to the Zaryadye park?
