Donations to streamers and real money for fake life: QIWI API Contest summed up

    The modern rule of value says: "The value of any platform for users is determined by the number of applications written for it." Therefore, having laid out the QIWI Wallet API with new authentication in August of this year , we did not postpone the involvement of the audience in the creative process of creating applications in a long box, and held a competition of ideas QIWI API Contest in September , in which even Habr himself participated .

    QIWI API Contest Finalists and Jury Members

    Of the 20 prototypes received, we selected the 6 best teams that made it to the finals. And then we chose two projects that deserved our so different, but in their own way wonderful prizes: a trip to Fintech Festival in Singapore banana-lemon and a personal acquaintance with the founder and CEO of QIWI Sergey Solonin.

    We did not choose the winners individually: Oleg Dronov from the AD.ru fund and Nigyar Mardaliev from SkyEng helped us a lot, who, together with us, watched all the presentations, asked questions and helped with the selection of winners, for which many thanks to them.

    As a result, Maxim diakov2100 team received a prize trip to Singapore FinTech FestivalDyakov, Alexander Naumov, Alexander Kobrin and Javid Khalilov with the YaStream project - a service for processing donates on streams.

    We chose their project because:

    • the presented product is well designed (availability of applications for Windows and Mac, a separate one for the streamer, a mobile application and a web form for the viewer);
    • good understanding of the target audience and product issues;
    • quality of presentation of the idea at the final part of the competition;
    • selection of suitable QIWI Wallet API methods for custom tasks;
    • YouTube is the new TV, and streamers are the new TV presenters. The choice of a promising direction with a long-term trend of growing interest.

    Alexander Naumov

    In addition, the project has the potential for international scaling, so it is important to communicate with the leading people in the fintech industry at the Fintech Festival 2017. That is why we decided that one of the team members should go to Singapore.

    Prize Breakfast with QIWI Ltd. CEO Sergey Solonin went to Sergey serjeyX Desyatsky for the QIWI LIFE SIMULATOR project.

    He proposed a draft of the second life mobile game. The game is a simulator, affecting various life situations. For example, it pretends to buy food, an apartment or a car for trips to work. As in real life, in the game you need to learn, work, in order to provide an acceptable level of comfort; in case of lack of which you will lose health, and ultimately lose.

    A key feature of the application is its integration with the QIWI Player Wallet, which consists in the fact that each balance replenishment will be increased tenfold and will be available for spending in the game store. On the one hand, the game does not force, as usual, a donation, but on the other hand, it gives one more reason to use QIWI Wallet. This idea is also more than just gamification: we saw potential in it, as well as for increasing financial literacy, and financial management with game mechanics. That is why we considered the project of Sergei extremely original, and he also became a winner.

    Honorable Mention

    Also, as part of the final, a team consisting of Sergey Mashkovtsev , Kirill Danilov and Maria Danilova presented the “Payment Calendar” - an integrated solution based on the Google Calendar API and QIWI Wallet. Now in the calendar with meetings and plans there is an opportunity to create events related to payments. The calendar will not let you forget to pay something or make a money transfer. As a rule, now many people have a calendar “for everything at once”, so this is a more convenient solution than maintaining a calendar of payments in the interface of each financial service.

    Alexander Desyatovtaught iPhone to understand voice commands - check wallet balance, pay for mobile and transfer money. This option appeared relatively recently in iOS 11 - now Siri can interact not only with native Apple applications, but also written by third-party developers. Alexander managed to create an SDK - a ready-made piece of the program that other developers can integrate into their applications. Of course, the jury had questions about the security of such a service - but it is possible to launch voice commands only after unlocking the phone.

    Igor Golenastovintroduced a prototype integration of a payment solution based on cryptocurrencies and payments for a mobile phone. And miners sometimes run out of money on the balance of the phone. The conclusion of such a solution from test use to combat, of course, requires the elaboration of a legal scheme.

    Andrey Krylosov presented the idea of financial motivation for children through a service for interacting with parents. For example, a child will be able to get pocket money if she studies well or does housework.

    I would like to note that we saw interesting ideas and their implementation both among the participants of the QIWI API Contest itself, and at the stage of the “contest of ideas” . Unfortunately, some worthy ideas did not make it to the finals, but they are worthy of mention anyway.

    For example, the idea of a service for automating small payments through the QIWI Wallet API, with cross-checking the result through the API of other services. Or the idea of paying for the work of SMM-shchik on social networks or on other sites.

    It is also important to note that half of the decisions of the final part of the contest touched upon problems related to children, their parents and finances. Among modern parents and children, modern automated ways of transferring money are in demand. Using the QIWI Wallet API, children will be able to better understand the function and value of money, and parents will be able to raise their children (encourage or fine).

    In general about QIWI API Contest

    In general, the given theme “automate your wallet” did not particularly inspire developers. They were more interested in OAuth access to end-user wallets for their applications. Even the ban on copying wallet_API tokens from the qiwi.com/api interface to the contest participant’s application interface did not help . It’s like with the sign “do not walk on the lawn” - many, seeing such an inscription, immediately want to walk on the lawn and still lie on it.

    Why did we introduce such restrictive conditions at all? Developing a secure token issuing process for third-party applications is one of the priority tasks for the QIWI Wallet and we could not ignore this aspect during the QIWI API Contest. As a result, there weren’t a lot of necessary solutions and, unfortunately, those who understood all the limitations of the competition conditions couldn’t present a working product.

    Also, complexity was increased by the fact that it was necessary to simultaneously provide an idea and develop its prototype. That is why we held a “contest of ideas” in order to somehow stimulate developers and give them food for thought. As conclusions, we extracted the following for ourselves: in order to get a good implementation, we need to cut the topic and spectrum of using the QIWI Wallet API.

    And for those who prefer to see once, we have prepared a summarizing video about how the QIWI API Contest took place and passed:
