Continuation of the epic with a USB stack

    image

We still managed to break the ice, we still found several testers during the last stage and are ready to move on.

Developer Vadim Galyant uploaded a ReactOS experimental image with updated components of the USB stack into the cloud. We need your tests again. Urgently! It depends only on you whether developments will get into the general branch before the release of 0.4.4. There is very little time left, literally a couple of days.

    Image Features:

    0. This is a LiveCD, which starts from the media without installation.
    1. For tests of real hardware, you need to replace all three usb (u | o | e) hci drivers with Windows (XP SP3 or 2003 SP2).
    2. Supports boot from flash drive.
    3. There is an important nuance - flash drives during operation cannot be removed AT ALL - this is equivalent to disconnecting a hard IDE drive from a hot one. The consequences will be fatal for the data on the flash drive and the running system. In theory, and adding to a hot flash drive is not worth it either.
    4. For the purity of the tests, it is advisable to completely disable all available sound cards on the tested computer.

Before experimenting with booting from a USB flash drive, it is advisable to first boot from the CD-ROM and make sure that all USB devices are visible and working properly. And then test the boot from USB.

If you are ready to test the boot from the USB flash drive, then use 1 point of this instruction and the Rufus program.

HDDs, card readers, drives, printers, scanners, modems use BULK transfers. Therefore, if flash drives work, then other devices from this list should work. True, ReactOS does not yet have support for all types of devices at a higher level.

Mice, keyboards, joysticks use INTERRUPT transmission.

Multimedia devices use ISOCHRONOUS transfers (there is no support at all in this image yet!).

Ask Vadim any questions directly and send him reports on the results of the image testing.

    Waiting for the results!
