Why is everyone so fond of step-by-step instructions, but they do not work

We have all come across hundreds of times articles, trainings, books with titles such as “Step-by-step instructions on how to make a business”, “10 steps, how to make a million” or “A simple algorithm for achieving happiness”. We like these headlines and attract our attention. And I really want to use these magic tips.

However, I have to disappoint you - they do not work in life. They don’t work at all.

So why, on the one hand, are such topics attracting us, and on the other they cannot be repeated? How to relate to the instructions and how to take advantage of this more than we are used to?

    This will be discussed further.

What is an instruction? This is an understandable sequence of actions due to reasons or a pattern of actions to achieve a specific result. The instruction does not accept deviations from the sequence of actions.
The simplest example. Tuning TV channels. You go to the desired menu item, find auto-tuning and start the search for channels. All is ready. Works? - Of course it works.

There are a great many of such instructions, and all of them are often connected with inanimate objects - computers, telephones, microwave ovens ... Or with animated objects, but where there is no choice. For example, a tourist guide to the city in which the route from the museum to the theater is laid. Walk 500 meters straight, turn right, after 300 meters turn left
    .
Did everyone learn such instructions? Surely.

Why they are good - they are understandable, simple, consistent, not in doubt and achievable. People are so used to them that they begin to try them on in an area where instructions give nothing.

Instructions are not acceptable between people. In business, and business is first of all relations between people, in family and friendship ...

Such instructions are unacceptable in conditions of uncertainty, for example in creativity. In those areas where human consciousness is involved.

From here we get the frustration of following instructions to achieve our goals. “I tried, but I did not manage to build a business”, “Probably something is missing in this instruction, so I could not repeat the marketing campaign” ...

People make 2 major mistakes when trying to copy step-by-step algorithms or other people's templates. Firstly, it is the habit of perceiving instructions as dogmas, and not as the personal experience of the creator of instructions. Secondly, they do not fill with emotional meaning the implementation of their task based on instructions.

The position “Now I’ll do everything as indicated in the step-by-step algorithm and I will succeed will be absolutely incorrect: I will find new customers, I will write an article, I will develop a new product.” This blind copying does not allow your consciousness to express itself and create something new. But this is the meaning of our consciousness. Therefore, the only right thought that should visit you when using someone else’s template “This person managed to do this and he went through the following steps. How to make it even better based on his experience. What can I take from experience, and what can I change or improve. I understand that since he will not succeed, but I can and should do even better. ” Any task has many solutions and ways to achieve it.

We are not asking ourselves another major question. “What did the creator of the instruction feel when he went through all its steps to achieve a result?” He felt sadness, longing, unwillingness to act, fatigue, laziness, or vice versa, he felt a craving for knowledge, interest in the task, inspiration and inspiration. What really made it possible to create step-by-step instructions? This is one of the most important issues. Because we are not driven by instructions, namely emotions. In certain circumstances, we are able to turn mountains and achieve our goals. At the same time, we obviously do not feel sadness and just do not feel indifference. We are on an emotional upsurge. Is this not the answer to the question of why people achieve results.

Do we really need someone else's algorithm for solving problems? Or we need only faith in success and an emotional charge, and the rest we will find how to do. Or, on the contrary, when we have instructions on hand, but there is no desire to use it, are we able to achieve something?

What is an instruction? This is a framework of other circumstances. The truth is that it is impossible to create something new and your own, being in the slavery of circumstances. And copying other people's actions, we do just that.

    More on Slavery

As soon as you see the next instruction on how to do what you still haven’t succeeded in 5 simple steps, do not try to copy another person’s action template. Treat it as one of many solutions and be sure to fill your path with emotions. Then the instructions and templates will really benefit you and save you from disappointment.
