China plans to intensify fight against cybercrime

The PRC government plans to create police units whose task is to ensure the security of the sites of large Internet companies and other services. Such measures, according to the authors of the project, should help reduce the number of cybercrimes, including theft of personal information, money from accounts, fraud, ”Vedomosti writes .

Chinese Deputy Minister of Public Security Chen Zhimin said the police will cooperate, including with Internet regulators. “In China, the era of the Internet is rapidly approaching, and maintaining order in the network is becoming a matter of national security,” Zhimin comments on the situation.

Unfortunately, the list of companies where the “cyber police” will work is not published. Nevertheless, it can be assumed that the security forces will work with Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu. The project to create "cyber police" was discussed at the highest level in China. So, if in May, President Xi Jinping of China said that Internet companies should “demonstrate positive energy in the purification of cyberspace.”

In July of this year, a corresponding bill was published in the PRC, providing for increased control over the dissemination of data on the Internet. This law has caused some concern among entrepreneurs who believe that the wording of the law is rather vague. Opponents of the bill argue that technology companies operating in China will be forced to submit their developments to the Chinese authorities. And this, in turn, can significantly reduce the volume of foreign investment in China.
