FBI asks for help decrypting 1999 message

The FBI turned to the civilian cryptanalyst community for help in deciphering the dying message that was found on June 30, 1999 in the pockets of crime victim Ricky McCormick from St. Louis.

The scan of the notes on the FBI website The FBI

reports that "despite the careful work of the cryptanalysis department (CRRU) and the American Cryptogram Association, the meaning of these two encrypted notes remains a mystery."

Two notes contain more than 30 lines of letters, numbers, brackets and dashes. According to relatives of McCormick, since childhood he has compiled such notes, but no one in the family could ever decipher them. According to investigators, the notes were written three days before the murder.

If you have ideas on how to decrypt this code, write to CRRU at (yes, they still accept paper mail):

FBI reports what kind of help is not offered rewards. The cryptanalyst said: “Even if we find that the notes contain a shopping list or a love letter, we still want to know how this code is decrypted. This is an encryption system that we don’t know anything about. ”
