Free classified sites kill newspapers

The popularity of sites with free ads (the most famous of them is Craiglist with a monthly audience of 42.2 million people) in America has more than doubled over the past four years. Currently, 49% of American Internet users go to sites with private ads (for comparison, in 2005 there were 22%), and one in ten does this daily.

At the same time, paper newspaper revenues from posting ads began to fall at an alarming rate, according to statistics from the Pew Research Center . This is not surprising, because it is difficult to compete with a free service. The graph shows revenues (in millions of dollars) over the past 28 years. Over the past three years, they have fallen from $ 17.3 billion to $ 10 billion.

Reducing the number of private ads - another brick that pulls the print press to the bottom.
