DUMP 2016 Conference: Web-Design Section Overview

    April 8 in Yekaterinburg will host the DUMP conference . Traditionally, we publish section reviews from program directors.

    Our first post about the Web-design section. Program Director Daria Prokuda talked about how the program was being prepared, what would be interesting in the section, and why go to it.

    prokuda.jpgEach time, while studying the program of the sections “Web-design and interfaces”, we are mentally prepared for the fact that once again we will hear a bunch of reports on common truths (how to design interfaces, how to write scripts and create prototypes, how cleverly to use design tools and this everything), we expect that they will tell us about what we have already heard many times. When compiling a program for DUMP and choosing speakers, we understood that we could not avoid such a situation. But we really wanted to actualize these truths under the realities of today: with new technologies, attractive options for cooperation, a large number of startups and other complex projects.

    We invited speakers to share the pain and stuffed bumps. We hope that their experience will help to avoid some mistakes and teach you how to optimize the work without extra costs.

    In order to make the soap honey and bast fruit, we tried to go beyond the framework of the section and present reports in a near-interface space, because the projected interaction from UX to VR is a design, and the ability to use techniques from related industries expands the capabilities of any specialist, especially a designer.

    I, as the section’s program director, art director and just a designer who loves what she does, I recommend that anyone who is at least somewhat interested in technology and their development come and listen to the reports.

    And now more about what awaits us.

    shuvaev.jpgUXD4Agile: managing user experience in flexible production
    Yaroslav Shuvaev, Alfa-Mobile

    Product Owner Alfa-Mobile at Alfa-Bank, curator of UX&UI intensiveness at the British Higher School of Design, using an example of a mobile application Alfa-Bank will tell you how to plan and implement user experience improvements product in a flexible production environment.

    ivanov.jpgDifficulties in translating, or open your eyes
    Anatoly Ivanov, Openlac. Design Bureau

    Tolya will make a very relevant report about working with foreign customers: how to find customers over the hill, how to adapt, how clients from different countries differ, and what a pain it is in working with foreigners. All stories are based on experience working with customers from the USA, China, Vietnam, Sweden and other countries.

    burdin.jpgTransformation of interface designer
    Alexander Burdin, RedMadRobot

    Curator of the course “Design of mobile applications” at the British Higher School of Design, senior designer at RedMadRobot, will talk about how the designer should change and develop in order to keep up with changes in interfaces, technologies and ways of interacting with them. What skills will be required in 20 years, and what are needed right now? Based on the experience of the British and Robots, Alexander will draw up his own pumping plan.

    Karmatsky.jpgCartographically
    Andrey Karmatsky, Urbica Design

    Andrei runs a studio that analyzes and visualizes data on the urban environment and will teach how to work with projects where there is a lot of data: how the process of creating interfaces working with complex data is arranged; how it differs from traditional web interfaces; what to consider when visualizing data, and what tools are available today to start doing this.

    In addition, on April 7 at 19.00 at the Grand Avenue Hotel (40 Lenin Ave.), Andrey will give an open lecture on maps and the urban environment.

    akatova.jpgFeatures of remote research, or how to test a product without a laboratory
    Ekaterina Akatova, Mail.Ru Group

    In a report, Ekaterina will tell:
    • about remote moderated and non-moderated tests with examples of specific cases;
    • about tools that allow you to conduct such research for sites and for mobile applications;
    • about the pros and cons of such methods;
    • about the difficulties that you may encounter in the process of such research.

    prokuda.jpgHow to survive in the wild conditions of a complex developing product. What to love, what to fight and what to score?
    Daria Prokuda, Ridero.ru

    We will deal with Ridero.ru as an example (the project is a finalist of the Startup of the Year Award 2015 in the Global Startup nomination). Already someone, but I know for sure where to start, where to run and what to do. And also about what problems await on the way to the ideal product, and what to do if you are bogged down in them “I really don’t want to”. What to do if everything went wrong as you intended. How to preserve the consistency, and why it is so important. What to love, what to fight, and what to score. And what’s important, how to build a process around yourself so as to save your nerves and time. And the nerves, yes.

    Faced with a complex project or product? Or maybe you’re thinking of switching to product design? Then you are definitely on this report.

    markin.jpgNontriviality of introducing VR&AR into everyday life
    Alexey Markin, JetStyle

    Alexey will talk about innovations based on virtual and augmented reality:
    • what they are and what they eat;
    • why should they even deal with it if introducing innovations into the workflow is not trivial and difficult;
    • how VR & AR are applicable to real life and the most ordinary human customers and projects;
    • How to choose the right technology for your tasks.

    Conclusions based on our own experiments - what could be more useful? From this report at DUMP, you will not only gain experience, but also be able to try virtual and augmented reality to taste and color! In the meantime, you can climb onto the augmented reality posters from JetStyle here :)

    lushnikova.jpgprichodko.jpgThe process of high-quality web product design. It is hard to find, easy to lose and impossible to forget.
    Veronika Lushnikova, Pavel Prikhodko, BeaversBrothers

    Do you focus on high-quality design? Then you are well aware that during the development process there are many bottlenecks that adversely affect the quality of the final product. Layout designers along the way lose the brilliant ideas of designers. Designers do not think about the final content and forget about a bunch of small nuances. The result is an oblique project that looks wretched. The customer roars, hugging his knees, and is not happy with the result. Everyone quarreled and fought. The art director will flog designers, and they say that layout designers are to blame. What to do with it, and who to punish?

    Veronika and Pavel will tell you why the client may not receive the promise, discuss the ideal process of working on a web product, consider the problems of transferring the design to layout and show how to solve them.

    shtang.jpgAlgorithm for typesetting
    Igor Shtang, author of the course “Typography and typesetting”

    Igor will present to the audience his algorithm for typesetting the text and explain why the text is the starting point and source of ideas for design. And also in the report:
    • how to stop making up dull layouts;
    • what is the difference between structure and construction;
    • where to look for style;
    • why there cannot be one right decision in design.

    Full abstracts and the rest of the program are on the conference website .

    By the way hereYou can watch video reports from last year’s section.

    Frankly speaking, there are not many professional events for designers in Yekaterinburg, and we want the meetings and discussions that were born as part of the “Web-design” section at DUMP to be not just traditional, but to bring together specialists, charge with ideas and give impetus to development .

    Designers, are waiting for you on April 8 at DUMP !

    Thanks to our sponsors who make the conference possible: SKB Kontur , Naumen , IT Center .
