Hello, Habr! So it's time to talk about the first ever GDG DevFest in Nizhny Novgorod, where local fans of Google technologies had the opportunity to meet in person and discuss current technologies. The conference was attended by over a hundred participants, and not only Nizhny Novgorod experts, but also guests from other cities acted as experts.

Together with the young GDG community in Nizhny Novgorod, we hope that all visitors to DevFest were satisfied with the results.

“Android 6.0 Marshmallow - a look at the practice”

The first speaker was the founder and teacher of the Funky Droid training center, a participant in GDG Moscow, and senior Android developer Mobile Dimensions LLC, Igor Tseglevsky. He devoted his speech to Android Marshmallow and all the new products that are waiting for mobile developers, as well as the practical side of the application of these new technologies.

“Android Design Library. Implementation of Material Design »

The second was Maxim Yudin, Android team leader from HeadHunter. He talked about the implementation of Material Design components in all current versions of Android, and also shared the "live" experience of implementing Material Design in an already finished application.

They listened to Maxim very, very carefully:

And, of course, did not forget to ask questions:

    “Typical Mobile Application Architecture”

After a short coffee break, Dmitry Ustimov, an Android developer from the Nizhny Novgorod company Globus, spoke. He talked about a very important topic for beginners: the typical construction of an application. That is, about how you need and how you do not need to make applications.

"Java Concurrency in Android OC and features of the use of certain multithreading tools"

Following the “simple” theme of proper architecture, Alexander Korshak, Team Lead from MERA, spoke with a much more complex and deep question. It was about the disadvantages and advantages of different approaches to multithreading.

“Creating native cross-platform Java applications using the Intel Multi OS Engine”

The last one before lunch was Intel's lead developer, Alexander Peskov. He talked about the new development of the company, which allows you to create cross-platform applications directly in Android Studio. The topic caused such a great resonance and a stream of questions that guests completely forgot about lunch.

“Mobile Vision API on Google Play Services”

After the lunch break, Grigory Dzhanelidze from St. Petersburg, a developer from e-Legion, spoke. His talk was about the capabilities of the Mobile Vision API, the “mobile vision” library. It is designed to highlight objects in images: faces, barcodes and QR codes.

The scope is almost limitless - from augmented reality systems to automatic pattern recognition. We recommend that you read this report to all who care about this topic.

“Using the RetroFit library to create REST clients on the Android platform”

It is time to give the floor to the girl! Anastasia Artemyeva, a developer from MERA and the only expert on the fair sex at the conference, talked about a simple and convenient way to create REST clients.

“Not a single loadLibrary: alternative ways to load native libraries in Android”

The last was Mikhail Lopatkin from Yandex, who shared his knowledge of elf anatomy with the audience, as well as something else about working with NDK.

    Afterparty

For dessert, the participants had "gatherings by the fireplace", that is, the so-called fireside chat, at which experts could ask any questions that the participants did not fail to take advantage of! Moreover, the most active were expecting gifts from GDG.

Experts were happy with every question:

And the conference participants had the opportunity to communicate with specialists of this level:

After the conversation continued in an even less formal setting:

That's all! We are glad that we were able to gather experts of this class and create a platform for communication between lovers of Google technologies in another city in Russia.

    Photo for memory!
