Google expands its data centers in Asia

In Asia, the number of Internet users continues to increase, and in order to ensure the normal operation of its resources in this region, Google plans to expand local data centers. The data center in Singapore will undergo the most changes, and the data center located in Taiwan will also be expanded.
As for Singapore, Google’s local data center was launched 18 months ago. Now, the second, multi-level DC, which will be located nearby, is added to the first object. The cost of such an object will be $ 500 million. Earlier, the corporation has already spent about $ 600 million on this data center, so $ 1 billion of money has been invested in the search giant in Singapore.

All conversions and new construction will be completed within two years. Now the corporation has laid out a render of how the new product will look after completion of construction. According to company representatives, the expanded capacity of the Singapore data center will help Google services work faster in Southeast Asia, India and several other regions.

The second data center from Asia, which is planned to be expanded, is located in Taiwan, it began work in 2013. The scale of updates in this DC is much more modest. The corporation plans to invest about $ 66 million in expansion (several months earlier Google invested another $ 100 million in this DC). This data center uses wind energy (a special wind farm has been rebuilt nearby). Its cost is $ 600 million.

Google actively uses green energy whenever possible.
At the same time, the corporation has no plans to implement the previously announced plan to create a third data center, which was supposed to be located in Hong Kong. In Asia, land and real estate prices are quite high, so it is more profitable for corporations to expand existing capacities than to build DCs in a new place.

Note that users from Asia are also served by European DCs, however, with the introduction of additional capacities, the company's services will indeed work faster for those users who live in regions close to data centers.
In addition to Asia, the corporation is building new DCs in other regions. For example, in the spring, a $ 600 million data center from Oregon went into operation. Google justifies the need for capacity building in Asia with a stable and very fast growth of Web users who use mobile devices. For example, in India alone in 2015 (from January to May) there were 40 million more users.
