Smartphone owners spend an average of 5⅓ hours a year waiting for a video to load
On December 9 in Moscow (RIA Novosti press center) at the press conference “Results of LTE Network Development in Russia in 2014”, held by the TelecomDaily information and analytical agency , we presented the results of the UXZoom methodology for the dynamics of changing the quality of mobile Internet services “through the eyes of subscribers” for November 2014 compared with July 2014.
What are the numbers below:
- on average, you spend about 45 seconds watching a 15-minute video to wait for a download;
- the number of views that you interrupted at the time of buffering reaches 9.4%.

In comparison with July 2014, 3BIG (in Moscow) has a positive trend in improving the quality of video viewing, including due to the active development of LTE networks.

Currently, on mobile networks, the average bitrate of the video being watched is about 900 Kbps with 360p picture quality. The active introduction of HD, FullHD and Ultra HD video services by Internet services and the growing demand of subscribers to watch with high quality (including due to the development of user devices) in the next 2 years will triple the requirements for mobile Internet speeds.
