The photo. Create great shots

Hello! This post will be about a book on photography, in a sense - unique. Its creation was attended by 100 photographers from around the world uploading their photos to 1x.com. Each photo in the publication is a work of art, and the author of the photo will tell you in detail about each photo - from the idea and place of shooting to implementation - with a detailed description of the camera settings, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. The structure of the publication allows you to study it from any chapter: choose the photo you like and find out in detail how it was taken and processed.

The photographs presented in the book are divided by genre:

Abstract photography is often defined as a photographic image, the theme of which is not obvious. Abstract photography uses the visual language of lines, contours, and colors. Images that exist without any connection with any particular topic are obtained. They completely lack realistic details, and the viewer's attention is focused on intuitive recognition. It can be argued that abstract photography is both the most rational and the most intuitive of all genres of this art. Abstract art combines the rational and the irrational in works that inspire both the master and the viewer. Abstract photographs are intelligent and often rather ambiguous. ”

Dynamic photography is a genre whose masters are able to capture a frame during a complex athletic exercise. In addition, specialists in such photography use exceptionally wide angles when shooting.

This is another example of fixing the elusive moments of reality. The desire for accuracy (no matter how broadly this term is interpreted) recedes into the background. Instead, the artist seeks to influence the viewer, to make him feel not a passive observer, but a participant in the unfolding events. ”

“When engaging in architectural photography , take the time to prepare. Before you start shooting, examine the building from different angles. Go around it, try looking for interesting viewpoints and light compositions. Look especially carefully for "non-obvious" angles. The right composition is the main factor for creating a memorable architectural photograph. Follow the golden rule: less is better, but better. Keep your composition simple and clear. Especially carefully look for interesting silhouettes and lines, and also take into account how certain lighting affects them. ”

“It is extremely difficult to capture a child in an interesting, unique photograph that conveys a unique moment. If we really do not seek the average, but a unique frame, to optimally convey the
mood of the moment, then we should stock up with remarkable patience. Children are photographed for many reasons, but one of the most important
is that children grow up quickly and these pictures remain unique reminders of childhood. ”

A documentary photograph can pursue a variety of purposes, from the usual recording of events (instant snapshot or unedited video taken at the weekend) to polemical text designed to convey a certain set of opinions to the audience. The target audience should catch such a semantic orientation very quickly, therefore it relates to documentary films differently than to artistic narration. In addition, it should be remembered that documentary is not limited to reproducing reality. It’s also an art. ”

“Most photographs require some degree of editing . This can be, for example, a simple correction of contrast and tones, the conversion of a color image into black and white, multiple exposure. Creating a photo montage is already editing a higher order. In my opinion, image editing is an independent extensive level of photographic expressiveness. "At the editing stage, we use various elements that add up to an original concept or express a burning idea.”

“A beautiful landscape shot often begins to be created before you uncover the camera and press the shutter. This is a “speculative” stage where you can imagine a perfect image and think over all the aspects and details that you want to capture. You can arrange objects to achieve optimal balance, imagine the type of light with which you would like to complement the scene, and even imagine the desired weather. ”

Macro photography allows us to multiply the microcosm surrounding us, as well as the creatures that inhabit it.

Some photographers work mainly or exclusively with natural light and do their work in a natural environment. Others use systems from several light sources and create, in a certain sense, a studio picture in which only the natural environment is imitated. In addition to photographing insects, macro photography also includes such genres as, in particular, macro photography of small objects and high-speed photography of droplet collisions. ”

Wildlife photographers have virtually no influence on their“ models, ”compared to peers specializing in other genres. A landscape photographer can only hope for good weather, the right lighting and a beautiful sky. When shooting wild animals, an additional problem arises: you have to deal with "sitters", which may not seem to you in ideal conditions, but when they please. Sometimes you can see your hero not in full face and not in profile, but, so to speak, from the rear. ”

Night and darkness at the same time carried away and frightened man for many millennia. Darkness so engages and scares a person, because it deprives him of the most important of the five senses - vision. To see, our eyes need light, preferably as much light as possible. But the artist must be able to consider the possibilities that darkness obscures. Any landscape or scene changes radically when the light disappears. "Some things disappear from view, while others, on the contrary, become clearer and more beautiful."

Creating a portrait requires preparation. I try to shoot portraits no more than once a month. This process requires laying out all the available ideas in the form of a thematic collage, also called a “mood board”, gathering a good team, finding a suitable place and preparing all the required props. This is a long but fruitful process. Do not forget, by the way, to invite a makeup artist and stylist. They can greatly decorate your work. I am convinced that not only one photographer creates a portrait scene. The entire creative team presses the shutter button. ”

Still life is a special genre of photography. Such a photograph is often commercial and is created for advertising
purposes (based on a certain concept), but purely artistic compositions from various
elements are also found at least . The theme of the photographic still life is inanimate / static objects, and the sizes of such plots can vary from miniature compositions that fit on a table to much larger sets. ”

Street photography is the art of graphically documenting and collecting unique moments from the life of the urban civilization surrounding us. The scene caught in the frame is unique, since the moment with the participation of these very actors will never arise again.
For example, in landscape photography, scenes are usually static, only light and weather can seriously change. In street photography, light and weather are also “variables”, but a much more unpredictable factor is constantly changing models and a set of details for the scene. The uniqueness of the picture obtained as a result is determined not only by the situation itself, but also by the way the photographer interacts with the scene. Ultimately, it all depends on how the photographer sees the development unfolding.
before him a situation. Moreover, the author himself becomes one of the actors. You need to be able to get as close to the scene as possible. "
