Backtracker: cyclist early warning system about a car behind

    There are probably quite a few people on Habré who regularly ride their bikes on the roads. Well, if there are paths for cyclists, but most often they are not, and the attitude of motorists to cyclists can not always be called respectful.

    As a result, cyclists often encounter a situation where a car appears out of nowhere, and rides by with noise, almost knocking down a lover of cycling on the roads. And the steering / helmet rear view mirrors do not always help.

    In order to make the ride safer, the Backtracker system was created, warning the cyclist in advance about a car approaching from behind.

    How it works?

    The system consists of two modules, the rear, which is mounted near / instead of the taillight or LED, and the front, which is attached to the steering wheel.

    The rear module is equipped with a system of LEDs and a microradar (the developer claims that this microradar was modeled on military devices), capable of accurately assessing the distance to the object. The maximum distance of the radar is 140 meters.

    As for the LED system, the rear module blinks as the car approaches, and the more often and brighter, the closer the car. Thus, the attention of the motorist is attracted to the bicycle and the distance to it (for example, the motorist is talking on the phone, distracted, etc.).

    The front module shows the speed of an approaching car and the distance to the car (the module has its own system of indicators, which can be called intuitive).

    System Specifications:

    • Maximum distance for detecting a car: 140 m;
    • The maximum speed of the car to trigger the system: 160 km / h;
    • LED brightness: 40 lumens;
    • The mass of the front module: 50g;
    • Mass of the rear module: 80g;
    • Battery Life: 8 hours
    • Data Transfer: Bluetooth LTE

    The batteries are charged via a USB data cable, everything is as usual.

    Price and order

    In Russia, pre-order for the system can be issued at Medgadgets .
