Samsung Launches New 3D V-NAND SSD

    Good afternoon, Habr!

Earlier this month, Samsung Electronics introduced a new line of SSDs with advanced 3D V-NAND technology on board - the Samsung 850 PRO. The novelty, presented at the global summit "SSD 2014" in Seoul, is designed to open a new generation of solid state drives.

The 850 PRO SSD is based on Samsung’s patented 3D V-NAND technology, which is a vertical three-dimensional structure of memory cells and a breakthrough in overcoming the existing technological limits of two-dimensional chips used in traditional drives.

SSD 850 PRO is characterized by high speeds and resistance to external influences, while offering a decent level of performance among drives using the SATA III interface (6 Gb / s). Sequential reading of the novelty reaches a speed of 550 MB / s, and sequential reading - 520 MB / s. In turn, the speed of random data reading by the device can reach up to 100 thousand operations per second (IOPS), and random write speed - up to 90 thousand IOPS.

In addition, the 850 PRO SSD is equipped with the Dynamic Thermal Guard feature, which maintains optimal temperature during operation and prevents potential data loss due to overheating of the device.

Samsung 850 PRO SSDs will be available in several options: 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. Presentation of new items in Russia is scheduled for September. Prices for the domestic market have not yet been announced.
