The Ministry of Industry and Trade orders the development of a domestic processor

According to Kommersant, the Ministry of Industry and Trade ordered the development of a new domestic processor called Baikal, which, according to the ministry, should reduce the dependence of Russian government agencies on Intel and AMD products.

Unlike the existing domestic Elbrus processors, the specifications of Baikal look quite modern: the processor, which should be released in 2015, should be manufactured according to the topology of 28 nm, have 8 cores, a clock frequency of 2 GHz and ... be built on Cortex A-57 army cores. Accordingly, the processor is not intended for workstations (this is a clear contradiction to the initial idea of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to leave Intel and AMD), but will be used in switches, routers, and in vague "computer technology". The operating system is of course Linux. And in 2016 we should expect a 16 core processor according to the 16 nm manufacturing process.

The order already has a contractor - this is Baikal Electronics, a daughter of the T-Platforms company specializing in the development of supercomputers. Actually, T-Platforms, together with Rusnano, financed the project. The current budget of the project is 1.2 billion rubles, only that there is enough doubt about this amount.
It is also unclear whether the processor will be produced in Russia, since we do not have production lines with 28 nm manufacturing technology. By the way, until the end of last year, T-Platforms were included in the list of organizations that are prohibited from exporting element base from the United States, as a company operating contrary to the national security of the United States. Now the restriction is removed. Summarizing, the project is similar to another cut of money with the purchase of ready-made solutions from abroad.

UPD I changed the wording of the survey, it really was too biased. I apologize if I jarred someone,
