TellSpec: Determine the ingredients of a meal, calories, and more in 3 minutes

Honestly, when I saw the news about the food analyzer, which is able to determine the composition of the dish, as well as determine the calorie content of the dish on the fly, I thought that this is one of the design concepts that appear in the set literally every day and very quickly disappear from the field view.

But no, TellSpec is a serious company from Canada that is really working on a new technology that allows you to determine the calorie content of the dish, as well as determine the composition of the dish. TellSpec team has been working on its project for several years.

Today on Habré the news was published about a system that uses spectroscopy to determine the composition of blood. Here we see something similar, only direct contact with the dish is not required.

Here is a video demonstrating the prototype:

The operation of the system consists in the emission of light waves, reception of reflected radiation, and spectroscopic analysis using appropriate software. Data processing is performed in the “cloud”, from where the processed data is already sent to the user's smartphone, with the output of visual information: the components of the dish and its calorie content.

Ideally, the company sees its project as a small device that is placed on a regular keychain, compatible with mobile devices based on Android and iOS.

Now you can pre-order the device (its price is 320 US dollars), the annual subscription to the data processing service is also included in the price. The subscription will then have to be renewed - either $ 7.99 per month, or $ 69.99 per year. The analyzer is charged via USB.
