A good table tennis robot: development from Germany

Let me remind you that today, March 11, there is a table tennis competition between a robot and a person ( Timo Ball is a repeated champion of various kinds of competitions).

While we are waiting for the results of this competition, evaluate the game of another robot created by the forces of a German engineer. The robot was called UHTTR-1, it looks pretty good - no multi-kilogram designs, only cameras, a manipulator with a mobile chassis and the corresponding software.

Unfortunately, the robot cannot attack, it plays in passive mode. He has not yet been trained to brush, but the blows are quite serious. Actually, this robot can be used as a rival for training and competitions with entry-level players.

By the way, this is not a weekend project, Ul Hoffman, the name of the engineer, developed his robot for two whole years.

Among other things, the software created for controlling the robot allows the device to self-learn, and the creator of UHTTR-1 is now working hard on the strategy of the “attacking robot”. Well, what the robot already knows how to do is in front of you:

And here is a new video from Kuka, a company whose robot is fighting Timo Boll today. Robot skills are impressive, right?
