Beginner musicians: why it is worth uploading albums on Jamendo
Jamendo recommender system in action as an example of the first group found.
Jamendo is a music platform and community . Musicians can post their creativity under Creative Commons licenses , sell commercial use rights and communicate with fans. Exists since 2005.
Many have heard about this service, many know about other similar services. Who asked: “Why Jamendo ?”, Based on considerations
- Already have Soundcloud , Kroogi , ThankYou , Realmusic , etc.
- This service is not Russian - who do we need coma there?
- English interface
- You need to bother a lot to upload an album - download a certificate, sign, send ...
Let's not beat around the bush
Your music will be heard. To do this, you do not need to PR in social networks and forums. It is only necessary to fill out the information of the profile, album and each record
as fully as possible .
Genre. Tags Tongue. With / without vocals (and male / female vocals?). Used tools. Pace. Indicate everything. Service search allows you to specify multiple tags at once. Fill everything in detail and correctly - help your listeners find you. Through the search and more. After all, there is a
recommendation system . Demonstrated at the beginning of the article. In the right column of the artist / album / song page, the block “if you like this, you might like it ...” is displayed. It seems that besides the genre, tags, etc. likes / dislikes are taken into account. So far, the system has not advised me of frankly bad recordings.
In words, everything is fine. Does it work?
We uploaded our single in mid-January. Now 1116 plays and 21 downloads (5 times downloaded the whole album). At first, I doubted that there were no external influences. An article about recording our single turned out to be unexpectedly popular, even if it happened a month before uploading to Jamendo .
However, later our guitarist posted his solo work there. And now he has 1020 plays. Almost caught up, scoundrel.
What about other services?
Last.fm - 60 plays and 7 listeners since mid-December.
RealMusic brought 4 downloads and a couple of plays.
On kroogi.com there are no statistics, as well as a recommendation system.
Our SoundCloud received a good dose from Habr, therefore there is no sense to consider the data from it. But the account with my solo work earned only 96 plays in six months. We haven’t posted anything
on ThankYou yet, but there is also no such recommendation system as on other services known to us. I believe that we got so many auditions thanks to her and the number of Jamendo users .
All such services seemed to tell me: “Hey, here you can listen to and download songs from these cool guys that everyone knows here. Well, whoever wants it, you can search among the rest. ” Only Jamendo constantly reminds: "In addition to these cool guys there are still these, you might like it." And yes, quite often the system is right.
Statistics, likes, download button, online listening is great. What about the rest of the goodies?
- Listeners can leave feedback on the album / song.
- You can start yourname.jamendo.com blog and write news in it
- Anyone who has become your fans on Jamendo can write a letter
- You can get the code for the song / album widget for embedding into the site (we customize the appearance). The widget allows you to listen, download, share in social networks.
- There are encouraging button ( to donate ). But this opportunity is limited by PayPal , Kroogi.com and ThankYou are more flexible in this regard.
- You can become a member of Jamendo PRO . Then you can buy the right to use your music for commercial purposes. And if you are selected for one of the radio channels , then you will receive money for this. I can not say how much. IMHO - a little
“The interface is English-speaking even when choosing the Russian language”
This is true. But gradually it is being translated, there has recently been a major update to the localization of the artists.jamendo.com section (for groups and artists). Gradually translate everything.
In addition, the words " download , share " are known to many people who do not speak the language at all. Yes, and much is clear intuitively.
So is there a Russian on this service or not?
There are quite a lot of Russian-speaking people there. Both performers and listeners.
“You need to mess with papers and the right to confirm”
This is a plus. An indicator that the service is serious. And one of the reasons for its popularity. How else to sell your music? Documentary evidence of compliance with all rights is required.
Yes, and where is the fuss? One piece of paper - a certificate. After filling in the creation of the artist on artists.jamendo.com and filling in the personal data of the copyright holder, you receive a certificate for downloading. Print, type
- address
- other rights holders (or check the "[]" box, confirming that the sole copyright holder)
- place where they signed
- date
- signature
source It
remains only to send it by fax or email . All. Other, including a license and participation in PRO , is already through the site.
“And if there are no auditions?”
So, little information was indicated. Or your creativity is still at a very low level. Nobody here will help you except you. Evolve and try again.
Or maybe humanity has not yet grown to your art. Then it's not about the service - you just need to wait. From a year to several centuries.
Total
A good (at least) recommendation system, a decent (at least) search and a large number of listeners will give you a large audience for beginners. There are many Russian-speaking users. All modern internet buns in stock. You can earn. All the fuss with certificates and filling in tags / genres is justified. Russian localization in the process.
Conclusion : the service is quite suitable for the role of one of the main platforms for laying out music. Naturally, you should not limit yourself to one.
PS And there are spots on the sun. Write about errors, shortcomings in PM, so I will respond and fix it faster. And, of course, indicate alternatives. Surely, in addition to these, there are many others, including those supporting Creative Commons .
