Mobile energy: an overview of interesting Nokia accessories with external batteries

    Hi, Habr.

Recently, a number of branded Nokia accessories have appeared on the Russian market, helping to increase the battery life of Lumia smartphones several times. We decided to collect the most interesting specimens together in one small review.

So, meet under the cut: the DC-50 wireless stand-alone charger, the DC-18 portable external battery, and the photo case with the optional Nokia Camera Grip battery for Nokia Lumia 1020 (PD-95G).

    DC-50 Wireless Standalone Charger

And we will begin our review, perhaps, with the most interesting device - the Nokia DC-50 wireless stand-alone charger, which is based on Qi magnetic induction technology. We already wrote in detail about the technology itself , and now we’ll tell you about the second generation of Nokia wireless chargers.

Set: charger, USB cable (matching color) and AC adapter.

So, Nokia DC-50 was presented at the Nokia World eventin Abu Dhabi and not so long ago appeared on the Russian market. It is made in the form of a small and very stylish rectangular box with rounded corners, in structure, color and texture strongly reminiscent of modern Nokia smartphones. At the end of the DC-50 there is a four-point LED charge indicator, an activity indicator, a power on / check button and a micro-USB port.

For small sizes (134 x 69 x 12 mm) and low weight (only 150 grams), the DC-50 is ideal in order to constantly carry the charger with you in a backpack, bag or even in your jeans pocket.

The case is made of high-quality polycarbonate combined texture: the upper and lower parts, in order to minimize the sliding of the smartphone and the charging itself from the surface, are made matte, and the end face is glossy. Such a decision is not only a tribute to practicality. Thanks to the combination of textures and bright colors, the gadget looks very very impressive.

Speaking of colors: in addition to saturated blue, DC-50 can be made in red, white and yellow. Therefore, even perfectionists will be able to find the perfect color combination with their smartphone.

But back to the most important: Nokia DC-50 allows you to charge any device that is compatible with the wireless Qi standard, and thanks to the built-in battery (2400 mAh), do it anywhere and anytime. And when connected via a USB cable to a computer or network adapter, the DC-50 can be used as a stationary charger.

Currently, wireless charging among Nokia Lumia models is supported by the Lumia 920 and Lumia 1520, as well as the Lumia 720, Lumia 820, Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 with an additional cover with wireless charging function.

By the way, the DC-50 itself, in addition to the ability to charge via a USB cable, can restore its own charge using Qi technology - for this it is enough to put it on another wireless charger.

A few words about the cost: the recommended retail price of new items on the Russian market is 3,190 rubles.

    Portable external battery DC-18

The next device in our review today is a small, but rather powerful “energy tile” DC-18.

DC-18 is a miniature and lightweight square box that looks like a Windows Phone tile. The body of the "tile" is made of glossy plastic of red, yellow, white or blue.

At the end there is a retractable micro-USB cable for connecting to a mobile device, which, when carried, hides deep into the case. On the back there is a micro-usb connector for recharging the battery itself.

The front panel of the Nokia DC-18 is decorated with a battery-shaped symbol with an “inlaid” LED display, which informs the user of the remaining charge level. An interesting mechanism is implemented to turn on this very indication - in order to find out how much charge is left, simply pull out the micro-USB cable from the case.

In the language of dry numbers, the weight of the gadget is 65 grams, and the dimensions are 57 × 57 x 14.9 mm.

With such a modest size, the battery capacity is 1720 mAh. It would seem that far from record levels, but given the convenience, design and low cost of the device, the DC-18 becomes a very profitable acquisition. Moreover, even this capacity of the device is enough to make up for the charge on most modern smartphones.

Speaking of cost: the recommended retail price of Nokia DC-18 is 1080 rubles.

Photo Camera Cover Nokia Camera Grip for Nokia Lumia 1020 (PD-95G)

The last accessory in our review today is the Nokia Camera Grip photo cover for the Nokia Lumia 1020 with a built-in battery.

Nokia Camera Grip is made in an unusual form factor and is an additional cover-case for Nokia Lumia 1020 with a hole for the camera module cover and a special design for a natural grip.

    Kit: photo case, leather strap.

The overall dimensions of the PD-95G are 145 x 74.6 x 27.2 mm, so the Nokia Lumia 1020 in the case does not increase much in length and width (the overall dimensions of the Nokia Lumia 1020 are 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm )

Nokia Camera Grip is made of matte polycarbonate yellow, black or white (full compliance with the colors of the Lumia 1020 line).

On the handle of the photo cover are located: shutter button, micro-USB connector for charging and connecting to a computer, four-point charge indicator, rubberized pad for fingers and a standard tripod mount.

This pen also housed an additional battery with a capacity of 1020 mAh, thanks to which the Nokia Lumia 1020's operating time is increased by about one and a half times.

The smartphone inserted into the case is securely fixed, and the design itself resembles a stylish digital camera. The ergonomic grip of the handle of the photo cover allows you to reliably place the device in the palm of your hand, allowing you to take great pictures on your outstretched arm without fear that the device will slip out when shooting.

In this case, the thumb naturally falls on the two-stage shutter button. Two steps of pressing, as everyone who has dealt with modern cameras understands, are needed for precise control of focus.

A standard tripod mount is useful, for example, if you are busy shooting art, creating complex special effects, or using special mounts.

And about the price: the Nokia Camera Grip photo cover for the Nokia Lumia 1020 is available for sale on the Russian market at a suggested retail price of 2,290 rubles.
