Is it necessary to update the date in the basement of the site with the advent of the New Year?
In a few hours, the New Year will come, and many people will try to update the date in the copyright section on their website as soon as possible. But is it right to update it immediately with the onset of the New Year?
The “copyright” section, which is usually located in the basement of the site, is officially called the “copyright mark”. The rules for its use are devoted to article 1271 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation , as well as the whole GOST R 7.0.1-2003 . According to this standard, the sign "consists of the Latin letter" C "in a circle, the name of the object of protection of the right, the name of the copyright holder and the digital designation of the year of first publication of the work ."
Thus:
When all materials on the site are published in one year, the sign has a standard look (the same as, for example, in paper books):
If you really want to update it, you can congratulate the readers on the New Year - new material will appear on the site,... and a good reason, finally, to put the cherished number.

Vasily Pupkin, 2013When different materials are published in different years, you can either use your date on each page of the site, or use a date range:
Vasily Pupkin, 2008–2013But, in any case, these are the dates of publication of the materials. Therefore, if after the onset of the New Year, new materials have not yet appeared on the site, updating the date is incorrect.
If you really want to update it, you can congratulate the readers on the New Year - new material will appear on the site,
