Roofs, water and iron pipes - Nokia Lumia 1020 in the hands of photo extremes
Hello, Habr!
Today we want to tell you about one of our special projects, which is truly breathtaking. Therefore, remove from your screens women, children and especially impressionable people.

The fact is that we gave our 41-megapixel smartphones Nokia Lumia 1020 to the most real masters of epic shooting, photographers with a developed sense of beauty, people with steel nerves and everything else - the famous ruler Vitaly Raskalov, no less famous photographer and blogger Dmitry Chistoprudov, as well as a diver and underwater hunter Oleg Gavrilin.
What came of it, look under the cut.

We managed to talk a little with Dmitry and Vitaly, ask them about the shootings, roofs, new technologies and much more. But first, a little about the authors of the pictures themselves.

Vitaliy Raskalov is an extreme player, a ruffer recently recognized as one of the 25 best photo bloggers according to the Russian Photo portal. However, Vitaly himself says that he does not want to be remembered as a photographer. Although it is difficult to deny his creative potential, especially considering the fact that Vitaly constantly walks along the razor's edge, conquering the heights without permission and insurance. The main shooting tool is the Canon 40D digital SLR.

Dmitry Chistoprudov is a photographer, traveler, blog author and co-founder of the 28-300 photo agency (founded in 2009 with Ilya Varlamov ). Dmitry specializes in architectural photography, aerial photography, shooting from roofs and production reporting. People and animals, in his own words, are of much less interest to Dmitry.
By education Dmitry is a car designer. He went a long way into professional photography, working as a designer in watch and construction companies, engaged in printing, sites and advertising, as well as three-dimensional graphics.

Oleg Gavrilin - freediving and spearfishing instructor, one of the leading trophy underwater hunters in Russia, team captain and participant in the European and world spearfishing championships.
What exciting, interesting, and maybe funny moments were on the set? Perhaps while shooting on our smartphone?
Dmitry: The phone always aroused the interest of my colleagues when I started shooting it. At first they celebrated its stylish design, and when I shot low-lit scenes with them, the result was amazing. This was due to the fact that in live view, almost nothing was visible on the phone screen (this was the case on the Royal Square in Barcelona). But after 4 seconds of shooting, the city “appeared” on the screen, and behind the back a polyphonic “wow” was heard.

I have two tripods: one is an easy option for traveling, and the other is armor-piercing, wind-resistant, which weighs 5 kg. When I was shooting in the subway from this tripod to Nokia, the phone itself was almost invisible against the background of this colossus. It looked funny. Many late passengers were curiously examining a tricky shooting device.

Vitaliy: There were a lot of interesting and funny events in my life related to rubering, I think it will take many hours to list at least half of them. Most took place in different parts of the world. For example, my friends and I were kept at gunpoint by police in Turkey on the roof of the Grand Bazaar, and another time we bought off a paramilitary guard in Cairo.

Dmitry, how do you manage to get into the subway tunnels or, for example, into the zones of the Ostankino tower that are closed to ordinary visitors?
Dmitry: For a very long time I tried to coordinate the shooting both in the tower and in the subway tunnels. The first time I officially climbed onto the open balcony of the Ostankino TV tower, I concluded an agreement and paid 36,000 rubles for two hours of shooting. Then he showed the result of the shooting to the local press service, and since then we are friends. For me, the “green light” is on at any mark in return for good photos of Moscow. Barter.

The story is different with the metro: there is a colleague, a wonderful photographer Alexander Popov , who sometimes takes me with him. It’s almost impossible to get into the subway tunnels just like that. At least for free.

Describe your set of daily gadgets.
Dmitry: iPhone 4S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and a watch
Vitaliy: iPhone 5 and a watch Casio.
Do you like the Nokia Lumia 1020 as a phone and as a replacement for the camera?
Dmitry: Yes, now I always have two phones with me.

Vitaliy: I didn’t use me as a phone or device, but replacing the camera is yes. If in the future it will be possible to build in support for RAW files and interchangeable lenses, then on some trips or sorties I would go exclusively with this camera phone.

In your opinion, can it (Nokia Lumia 1020) replace a professional camera or, for example, be used as a specialized device?
Vitaliy: With good processing skills and support for RAW files, she can easily compete with amateur DSLRs.

Dmitry: After a long shoot in Spain, I had a couple of free hours to walk around the old city. I left the heavy cameras in my room and went for a walk with the iPhone and Nokia. Though I could see the city. "IPhone" in the end did not get it.

The Lumia 1020 professional camera will not replace, and for many inexpensive soap dishes in terms of the combination of compactness and quality parameters, the nose will easily wipe off.
What do you think about the Nokia Copter project , would you like to build yourself the one to take pictures and videos from the roofs, so to speak, from a third party?
Vitaliy: If I decide to assemble such a “copter”, then, no offense, it will consist of several GoPro cameras. Firstly, they are several times cheaper, it will not be a pity to break it. Secondly, the viewing angle and shooting quality are optimal for aerial photography.
Dmitry: I am neutral. Perhaps due to the fact that he has already shot many times with the AirPano teamvarious panoramas from the air and this won’t surprise me anymore. We once adapted my Nokia to a hexacopter, but due to small vibrations “jelly” appeared. Oddly enough, it is better here that the device could turn off optical stabilization. So far, GoPro is more suitable for such purposes.
Where do you think the whole mobile industry is heading: to unify all devices into one universal type or, conversely, to narrow specialization? Do you think there will ever be a smartphone for ruffers?
Dmitry: A smartphone for routers is unlikely.
The line of development of mobile devices is well traced. At first, everyone tried to make devices smaller and thinner. Then the touch screen appeared, and the fashion went back in the direction of increasing size. Today there are phones that can hardly fit in the palm of your hand, and the cellular function has long been not a top priority. Today these are handheld computers-televisions that can take pictures and make calls. Unification or narrow specialization? Rather, the first option.

What impresses you the most in the modern technology world?
Vitaliy: Easy access to information.

Dmitry: No matter how trite it sounds - the ability to synchronize devices. Now I am writing this letter to you from a computer, and in two phones there are already drafts saved on this phrase.
