We stopped by for tea
In large cities, it is not uncommon for citizens to go to the "store around the corner" with a credit card without any cash. If the cache is present in your pocket, then the maximum is to pay for public transport. Credit card holders are gaining popularity, pushing into the background the traditional wallets. The future quietly diffuses between money wallets. Whether it is good or bad is up to everyone to decide for themselves, but the fact that more and more people will do it every day to pay with a card is easier and faster, it cannot be denied.
Now non-cash money is the highest stage of financial evolution, so the "population" of services and services is forced to adapt to existing realities in order to "keep up with the elders." And one of the conditions to which it must adapt is to receive a tip from a credit card.
In connection with the Eurocentric mood of big cities, the tradition of leaving for tea even for a business lunch more and more eats up the mentality and acquires the status of not just a good tone, but also the right image. And since we remember that now the city dweller does not have cash, but there is a need to behave like a decent European and leave for tea, it is logical to assume the magnitude of the dissonance in his head.
In this case, there are two ways:
1. After lunch, a taxi ride, or after receiving the goods from the courier, the client asks “wait for him a couple of minutes” and disappears in search of the nearest ATM to withdraw a certain amount for tea (suppose that before that he paid for the service with a card). Sometimes it takes a lot of time to do this, as a result, the employee loses time for which he could earn more than the tip amount.
2. The courier, waiter or taxi driver after serving silently hands the client a mobile terminal for payment by credit card, the functionality of which immediately includes the option to leave for tea a certain amount as well as a percentage of the total check.
Well, you can just not pay. But is it necessary?
According to the civil legislation of the Russian Federation, payment of a tip can be interpreted as “receiving income in cash or in kind from other individuals by way of gift”, that is, by way of a gratuitous transfer of a tax-free amount. This is because there is no counter obligation on the part of the donee worker, since the client did not use the services of a specific individual, but the company. At the same time, importantly, tips are given after the execution of the contract.
But overseas, in accordance with US lawTips received by the taxpayer are subject to declaration and taxation. The existing national association of US restaurants strongly recommends leaving at least 15% of the tip, and in the case of good and excellent service - all 20%. American taxi drivers, despite the lack of a national association, may not give change to customers at all under the pretext of "legal tips."
Tipping from a card is taxed in any country, reducing the amount of actual remuneration - this is not very convenient for the employee, but increases the company's turnover and transparency of reporting. In this case, the amount of "tea" turns into a kind of "percentage for service", which is practiced by some cafes and food service companies, but in contrast to it does not violate the rights of consumers. The fact is that the automatic inclusion of an additional percentage in the check obliges the service to notify its customers about this before they receive services, but this rule is often not met. In the case of tips, the percentage takes on a voluntary form and, therefore, does not violate any rights.
Why has the conversation about tips already taken more than 3.5k characters?
Because this traditional, permanent, and often the main source of income for service and service workers still does not have a standardized form accepted by all parties and does not answer the questions: how, what and why to pay?
LifePay offers its simple and understandable solution: we enter tips into the general check using the mobile terminal for receiving bank cards, into which the smartphone itself turns. For this, even a second rental card is not necessary - everything is done transparently and in front of the client, moreover, he chooses the amount or percentage of the check. The principle itself has already been described here before.
Tips made through mPOS go to the company’s bank account together with the total payment. Money comes to the settlement day the next day, tips are taken into account on a separate line. The employer himself determines the method of distribution of this amount. Directly - when tips are given directly to the employee to whom they were intended, or indirectly - when “general tea” is distributed among other employees of the staff (for example, between dishwashers, bartenders, cooks and waiters).
- Solves the issue of legalizing tips (they no longer encourage tax evasion and are demarcated with a bribe)
- Designs the tradition of paying tips to staff in general
