Where does the hard disk space disappear in Mac OS X?

Being the proud owner of a MacBook Pro with 256Gb SSD, I began to notice that the system was inexplicably “growing”.

It seems that movies are downloaded to an external hard drive, only working files are located on the SSD, and the place disappears somewhere.
Of the 256Gb over time, only 107Gb remains.

The OmniDiskSweeper utility showed that about 70 Gb of user data should be occupied. Question - where else have gone about 80Gb?

    Typing
    # du -h -d 1 / in the terminal,
I saw a strange folder in the root called /.MobileBackups, which occupies 80Gb.

A further search found out that this is a local backup that creates TimeMachine in case you do not have a backup disk on hand. Those. in fact, when you delete files from the recycle bin, they are not physically deleted, but transferred to this folder.

All this is disabled through the console:
    # sudo tmutil disablelocal
