Smartphone battery life: “distinct” comparative guide

There are not many IT-related information resources on the Web that are as serious as possible when evaluating battery life. Often, even reputable observers are limited to general phrases such as "one or two days will work." And this despite the fact that I personally immediately rewind articles to the section "Autonomous work". In this matter, I am invariably pleased with the Helpix resource, which carries out measurements of "mobile" in 14 scenarios, until it is completely discharged. That is, the test of the duration of the work of even the most "seedy" smartphone takes a total of about 120 (O_O) hours. Measurements are entered in the updated summary platewhich I would like to demonstrate. In total, the list contains 27 pieces of equipment, including tablets. Over August-September, the Highscreen Omega Q, Alcatel One Touch X'Pop 5035X, Highscreen Alpha R, teXet TM-4072 X-basic and Fly IQ4411 Quad Energie 2 were added. In my opinion, this is an extremely useful “collection”, which should be borne in mind when choosing a smartphone.

I will not torment, I will immediately give the latest version of the table at the moment. At the same time, I remembered that I had somehow not decorated posts with flesh for a long time, so I decided to attach a couple of pleasing eyes to refine the text :)

It’s advisable to maximize the browser window, otherwise the picture may “shrink”

In the explanation of the methodology it was said that the brightness in smartphones was everywhere set at 150 cd / m2. According to the resource owner Georgy Kiselev, this indicator is enough for comfortable work in artificial lighting. Frankly, before I did not really think about this approach. After all, observers prefer to set the brightness to the maximum, which leads to not quite correct comparative data on smartphones: How much does this eventually distort the ability to compare autonomy information between devices from different sources? "Strong. By tens of percent. Well, if not one and a half times. The screen, roughly speaking, “eats” half the battery. The difference in screen power consumption at 50% brightness and 100% brightness can be two times. And 150 cd / m2 - it can be 30% of the maximum brightness, and 90%, ”- George explained to me. And he gave a link to another interesting plate , where, among other things, real “candelas” are shown, depending on the installed brightness.

Given the enormous amount of work being done, I also could not help but inquire about the problems arising in the process: “The biggest difficulty is measuring the time of work in telephone mode, because MegaFon, which I use, has a maximum possible call time of 50 minutes. And I haven’t figured out how to automate testing so as not to manually call back every 50 minutes ”- answered George. It is interesting that sometimes the reviews generally bypass the topic of phone calls. For example, in the IXBT methodology, only reading, video and 3D games are shown. Or there are compromises when the total battery consumption in the “set” of tasks performed for 20-30 minutes is recorded. Say, I am impressed by this approach of the site x-drivers.ru .

Actually, back to the autonomy table. It uses a convenient indicator, “K coefficient” - an average indicator of how much better or worse the battery of the device compared to the Samsung Galaxy S4. Of the top three, the first two places are in the domestic brand. Everyone knows about Highscreen Boost, but I didn’t like the smartphone’s not very stable operation. For example, sometimes my camera refused to turn on at all. Perhaps this is some kind of karma - the users I interviewed had no such complaints. But Highscreen Alpha R openly pleased - in some places it not only surpasses Boost, but simply “tears” it. This is despite the fact that the model has a 5-inch Full HD screen and a 4-core MediaTek MT6589 with the “T” index. I generally liked the smartphone, but the PowerVR SGX 544MP for 1080p is weak - in games like Iron Man,

In my opinion, the installation of 3,000 mAh batteries becomes a reasonable decision in the style of well-fed wolves and sheep. The phenomenon is still infrequent, but periodically observed. In the table in third place is just the “three thousandth” Fly IQ4411 Quad Energie 2. However, the ordinary TFT display, 5 megapixel camera and only 512 MB of RAM (this is a 4-core processor) is not an ice. In this situation, 7,990 rubles (the price in the official online store) is somewhat high.

I would like to end the post with encouraging thematic news feeds from the Berlin IFA 2013, but alas, those on the topic of “long-playing” smartphones were not found. Probably, the "tasty" news was stored in time for MWC 2014. In the meantime, we will follow how the current news show themselves in the merciless trials of Helpix.
