NORD data center on Korovinsky highway

Meet this NORD data center on Korovinsky highway.
The data center consists of three buildings (NORD 1, NORD 2, NORD 3) and today it is the largest facility of DataLine. The total area of all buildings of NORD data centers is 7636 square meters. m., in such spaces 1280 racks with 8 engine rooms can easily be accommodated.

A panoramic view of the NORD location: NORD 2 (gray) and NORD 1, the one that gray has on its side. The total area of NORD 2 is 1713 sq. m, the number of stays - 474. The total area of NORD 1 - 1320 square meters. m, the number of stays - 284. And the gray case aside is the NORD 3, which was launched this year. The total area is 1880 square meters. m, the number of stays - 426. In the same place where the foundation pit (now the foundation has already been filled), a new NORD 4 building with a total area of 11700 sq. m and 2000 racks. The launch of the first NORD 4 engine rooms is scheduled for the first half of 2014.

    NORD 1 and 2

    NORD 3

All halls are made in the form of hermetic zones (“house in house”). Before starting, the containment area is carefully checked for leaks, pouring tons of water onto it. In general, under such a reliable roof it is not scary to place the server with the most important data.

    Power supply

Electricity from the city network to NORD is supplied through two independent beams, i.e. power supply to the data center is reserved according to the 2N scheme. If at least one beam fails, the data center automatically switches to power supply using 9 diesel generator sets (DGU). While the DGU are included in the work, the power supply in the data center is carried out using uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
Here is our "socket" right next to it.

DGU oil and antifreeze are constantly in a heated state, due to which the diesel engines are constantly ready to start and go into operation in less than a minute. The NORD data center uses FG Wilson diesel generator sets in container design. NORD 1 is served by 4 DGUs, NORD 2 - three, NORD 3 - two. In the near future, NORD 2 and NORD 3 will have two more diesel engines each. All diesel generator sets are reserved according to the N + 1 scheme.

DGU fuel tanks are designed for 6 hours of operation, and existing contracts with contractors for the prompt delivery of diesel fuel guarantee an arbitrarily long work of the data center even in case of a long-term failure of the city power network.

While the DGU start up, the power supply of the entire data center rests on the UPS. All NORD enclosures are equipped with APCs manufactured by the APC MGE Galaxy 7000 series. Their capacity is designed to power the entire data center for 10 minutes. This time is more than enough for the DGU plant. UPSs are reserved for 2N circuitry. Three UPS batteries are connected to each UPS.

    Cooling and climate control system

The NORD data center maintains a constant microclimate: the temperature is kept at 25 ° C (± 2), and the humidity is 30-70%.
From the air conditioners, the cooled air is supplied under the raised floor and then, through the perforated tiles of the raised floor, it is blown into the “cold” corridors. From there, the server takes it from the front side and blows already hot air from the back side (the traditional principle of “cold” and “hot” corridors).

All equipment in the data center is “cooling” under precision dual-circuit freon air conditioners.

On the roof and next to the buildings are external condenser units connected to the air conditioners by two independent paths. Each air conditioner has two such external units. The entire air conditioning system is reserved according to the N + 1 scheme.

    Security and video surveillance system

Reliable security and access control and management system (ACS) will not let uninvited guests to NORD.
And those who have access to the holy of holies are closely watched by the external and internal cameras of the security television surveillance system (COT). So not a single body movement in the premises and adjacent territories of the data center will go unnoticed. Video archives are stored for three months.

But this is not all: for those who wish, you can arrange a real Fort Knox - install additional fences, ACS and cameras for individual racks.

Finally, all the buildings of the NORD data center are equipped with an alarm (“panic button”) FSUE Okhrana of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
To get inside the NORD data center, you need to order a pass no later than an hour before the visit, present an identity document at the security post, and under the strict guidance of the duty engineer go to explore the expanses of the data center.
Despite its impregnability, for DataLine customers who wish to conduct their equipment, the doors of the NORD data center are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    Monitoring center

Here, on numerous monitors, all the engineering systems of the data center are in full view: here all the information about the parameters of energy consumption, the condition of the cooling systems and the availability of backup power sources - DGU and UPS, is transmitted. Customer’s tickets sent from the Personal Account get to the MCC screens .
Speaking of the latter, almost all the information that appears on the screens of our MCC is available for customers in the Personal Account.
There is also information on the equipment used by the client in the data center, contract documentation and information on payment for services.
But this is not all: all day every 4 hours, on-duty engineers bypass all machine rooms and infrastructure facilities. So everything in the NORD data center is under vigilant control

    Fire safety system

For all firefighters (in the literal sense of the word) cases, the NORD data center is equipped with an automatic gas fire extinguishing system.
It provides early detection of a fire, warning (our siren will raise the dead) and automatic extinguishing.
Freon 125 is used as a fire extinguishing agent, which is supplied through pipelines to the protected premises.

The system is super reliable, as it is reserved according to the 2N scheme.

    Telecommunications

Network and cable infrastructure is reserved on a 2N basis. IP / MPLS network is distributed between two data centers, has points of presence on MMTS-9 and MMTS-10. The network is connected to several points of traffic exchange (MSK-IX, DATA-IX, RETN-IX).

All nodes are interconnected by redundant fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL).
The total bandwidth of the Internet band is 50 Gbit / s, communication channels - 150 Gbit / s.

And finally - the beauty of our NORD data center.
