Smartphone Overview Lenovo P780

The logical continuation of the line of "long-playing" smartphones was the release of Lenovo P780. This device is positioned as a development of the previous Lenovo P770 model with significant differences in hardware
► Specifications

Almost everything has changed compared to the Lenovo P770: the P780 has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720, a new 4-core MTK6589 platform and a 4000mAh battery, as well as an 8MP rear camera.
► Appearance and equipment
Lenovo branded box with a two-level design: phone on top, accessories on the bottom.
A complete set of accessories: USB cable, charger, OTG cable, headphones.

Headphones with logo:

2A charger:

Using an OTG cable, you can not only connect flash drives, but also charge other devices:

The phone itself looks massive:

If you have a medium-sized hand, holding the phone will not be very convenient, since it is quite wide:

Despite the large battery, the phone does not look thick:

At the back, it resembles the flagship Lenovo K900:

Rear 8MP camera with flash:

Hands-free speaker:

The sound is quite loud, but at full volume it can wheeze a little.
At the top there is a 3.5mm headphone input, under a small protective cover - microUSB, as well as a power button. To place the power button on top on a 5-inch smartphone was not the best decision - reaching it holding the phone with one hand is difficult.

The volume rocker is on the right:

In order to insert a SIM card or microSD memory card, you do not need to remove the entire rear panel. It is only necessary to remove the metal insert: The

battery is sealed with a seal and fastened with screws around the perimeter. In fact, it is removable, but the manufacturer decided to deprive us of the pleasure of removing it every time we need to change a SIM card or memory card. Capacity - 4000mAh.

Two slots for SIM cards: the first can work in 2G and 3G networks, the second - only 2G.
There is a small red Reset button in the microSD card slot.

Settings of SIM cards is carried out in the menu "SIM Management" and provide the ability to set a default SIM card for various actions: calls, SMS, Internet, as well as roaming behavior.

► Screen
The Lenovo P780 has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720. Made by IPS technology. Is OGS (one-glass-solution) technology used? I find it difficult to answer. But most likely not - since there is a slight unevenness of the backlight on the screen from below and above. Before that, I had the opportunity to use ZTE V987 smartphones, as well as Jiayu G4 - they clearly show that the screen is made using OGS technology, when the glass and the touch screen are a single unit, without an air gap between them. The screen is bright, with good color rendering, but a slight unevenness of the backlight and the tint in blue when the smartphone is tilted to the left spoils the overall impression a bit.
By its large battery and solid appearance, this phone can be classified as a “business phone”, and I would like to see a higher level screen in it.

According to information from the manufacturer, the screen is covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

► Sound
The P780 has 2 microphones necessary for effective noise reduction. Also used is a proprietary development called SmartSound, which is designed to improve sound quality. And I must say that it works well: the interlocutor notes excellent audibility and the absence of extraneous noise. The spoken speaker is also pleasing - the audibility is excellent, good volume and the absence of various crackles and noises.► Wifi
Wifi signal strength is good, near the router the arrow Wifi Analyzer is in the green zone, through 2 walls the arrow is stable in the yellow zone:

► GPS
GPS satellites are caught in 2-3 minutes from a cold start. Hot start - up to 30 seconds. From a nice addition to navigation - a built-in compass.

► Camera
The resolution of the rear camera is 8MP camera, but it does not affect the quality of the pictures. The color rendition obviously suffers and the pictures are faded:

► Web browsing
The smartphone does a great job of page browsing. Scrolling and zooming are smooth, and page opening times are limited only by the speed of your Internet connection.
► Games
It seems to me that playing heavy 3D games on your phone is not very convenient. I prefer either platformers:
or logic games:

Rarely when it comes to 3D games:

But MTK6589 has enough power for heavier games.
► Software
Preinstalled Android 4.2.1 with a proprietary launcher from Lenovo.

You can not just change themes from one to another, but also make fine adjustments to many parameters:

Settings are on 3 tabs.
On the first one there is quick access to frequently used settings, on the third one there is a complete list of settings:

On the second one there are intelligent settings that respond to changing the location of the phone:

Separately, you can configure notifications for each application, change notification indication settings, and also actions when entering the action range Wifi:

Lenovo branded dialer called Idea Friends allows you to quickly search for contacts by typing a name with numbers (numbers correspond to a set of Russian or English letters), as well as sort a contact s alphabetically:

It is possible to record a conversation "from the line."
Idea Friends is a center not only for making calls, editing and searching for contacts, sending SMS, but also for backing up phone book and SMS data.

Applications calculator, voice recorder, flashlight, also underwent cosmetic changes:

Pre-installed office suite KingOffice, which will help you create, view and edit files in popular formats .doc, .txt, .xls, .ppt.

Convenient help on using the Android OS. Only text translated, images contain English text:

Lenovo's launcher is great for people who like to customize the phone “for themselves,” in it you can configure almost everything: from the appearance of desktops and icons to setting up system notifications and applications.
► Performance
The P780 is built on a 28nm Mediatek 6589 chip, which consists of a 4-core Cortex-A7 architecture processor with a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz and a PowerVR SGX544 video accelerator. The amount of permanent memory is 4GB, operational - 1GB. If the permanent memory is not a problem to expand using microSD memory cards, then the RAM is very quickly clogged by applications. With unloaded applications, the amount of RAM is about 500-550MB. Let's look at the results of synthetic tests:
Antutu 3.3.2:

Quadrant:

Antutu and Quadrant show standard good results for the MT6589 chip.
The result of the Vellamo test in HTML 5 processing speed confirms the fast processing of web pages:

Nenamark 2 with a result of 40fps gives hope for the launch of heavy 3D games:

In general, platform performance is more than enough for everyday tasks.
► working hours
Installed proprietary utility that allows you to choose energy saving plans. Their 4: -Maximum
-Dolgy
-Optimal
-User Plan

Plans are different set of parameters that can be included or switched off (wifi, blueooth, calls, etc.). The forecast of the operating time cannot be considered correct, since it is based on the results of the constant use of the phone in a specific energy saving plan.
The most commonly used custom energy-saving plan: A

battery with a capacity of 4000mAh suggests a long battery life.
In the Antutu battery tester test, the Lenovo P780 smartphone scored 1259 points:

And this is a great result! After a couple of charge-discharge cycles, the result in the test should raise to about 1500 points.
In practice, this implies about 3 days of active use. In my case, within 3 days the screen was turned on for 12 hours, Wifi - for 8 hours, calls - about 20 minutes. The phone was used in the launch mode of tests, various programs and games.
► Advantages and disadvantages

Total Lenovo P780 is a very worthy replacement for the P770. Excellent performance, a compass, 2 SIM cards, a large battery and a proprietary launcher from Lenovo, in which you can configure almost everything.
