CeBIT 2013 presents Headtracker accessory for Carl Zeiss Cinemizer OLED glasses

A year ago, Carl Zeiss, a well-known manufacturer of optics, presented Cinemizer OLED stereoscopic glasses . And this year, at CeBIT 2013 in Hanover, the company announced a very interesting Headtracker accessory that extends the functionality of the glasses: it captures the movements of the user's head and thus turns them into virtual reality glasses.

The main field of application for this tandem Zeiss sees 3D games: now, in order to, for example, look around in the game, the player just needs to turn his head. Franz Troppenhagen, Product Manager at Cinemizer OLED, noted that, in addition to being able to simply turn your head to look around, you can better immerse yourself in the virtual world, it also gives you a real gaming advantage, allowing you to focus on managing the game, rather than on where to look.

The scope of the bundle is not limited to games: at the exhibition, the company demonstrated the use of the device also in architectural visualizers and in other areas.

However, it was not without a fly in the ointment: the device shows a small, but still noticeable delay in the reaction of the picture in comparison with head movements. All modern devices have this drawback, and it is not known how soon manufacturers can overcome it.

Cinemizer OLED glasses themselves have already appeared in retail sales in Europe at a price of 650 €, and they plan to launch the Headtracker accessory for sale in early April at a price of 200 €.
