Despite the fact that less than a week has passed since the publication of the first experimental assemblies with Ubuntu editions for smartphones and tablets , apart from the initially supported assemblies for Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Nexus 4 smartphones and Nexus 7/10 tablets, enthusiasts ported another 24 devices originally shipped with the Android platform. Ready-made installation assemblies are already available for devices such as Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia T, Huawei Ascend G300, VZ SGSIII, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Asus Transformer Infinity, Asus Transformer Pad and Nexus One Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

The quick porting to new devices is mainly facilitated by the use of the basic components of the Android platform as the basis of the Ubuntu edition for phones and tablets. In fact, for devices already supported by the Android platform, it’s enough to adapt the device’s chroot environment with Ubuntu components running on top of Android to the device. The kernel, drivers, OpenGL ES2.0 layer, components for processing multimedia content, system services and the SurfaceFlinger composite manager are used from the Android platform. For interaction between the Android environment and the Ubuntu chroot environment, libhybris and the IPC Binder mechanism are used .

UPD: As pnick user correctly notedmost images are only in Work in progress status and are not available for download. We hope for the early appearance of ready-made assemblies and the expansion of the list of supported devices.
