Warm tube phone

After watching the first “Matrix”, everyone caught fire on slider-type cell phones, but I wanted a kosher carbolite disk phone. Having looked at the horse-drawn prices for such devices, plus the equally horse-drawn prices for delivery to the village of Moscow, I looked in the direction of the hammer, and, miraculously, this beautiful device appeared in my sight, for only 400 rubles (~ 10 €).

But it’s interesting not only to get the thing, but to clean it, fix it, set it up and see for one thing how it is arranged. So, let's proceed to the autopsy of this retro-patient.

    First meeting

Let's start with the look. The phone itself is very heavy, has a steel base, the handset has a beautiful chiseled shape

I am very pleased with the metal tabs reset, or rather the lever as the right to correct me.

    Gut the tube

We will start by disassembling the tube. The microphone on the phone did not work. And as it turned out later, there, firstly, there was not a native microphone, and secondly, the seller there just inserted the first wire that came across two conductors, although the tube is connected via a four-wire cord. Therefore, the microphone, even if it was there, could not work. Looking ahead, I’ll say that I replaced this cord with a kosher twisted wire from the old clave.
In the place of the microphone, 4 more terminals are installed, on which the wires from the main unit are attached, and a rather complicated device for connecting the microphone. It must be in contact with the central contact and two protruding screws. In the photo, the microphone is not native, and cannot and should not be

If you unscrew the two screws from above, you can remove this plastic “squiggle” and gain access to the terminals themselves.

Shot plastic horseradish. It can be seen that there are only two wires to the FOUR terminals (only the speaker works).

Not less, but even more interesting is the speaker. In fact, this is an electromagnet, on which a steel membrane is placed on top. Moreover, the contours of the tube are also magnetic (i.e., the membrane is magnetized). The device is simply eternal and has no demolition.

Disassembled speaker. On the right lies the membrane.

    We climb into the body

Turn the phone over and gently (I said GENTLY!) Put it on its side.

The phone lay on its side

All bowels are covered with a plate, which has latches on the side. It is enough to insert a screwdriver, slightly press and it will open. At first, I thought that the case will bend, or somehow a screwdriver will ruin it. But nifiga, everything was just perfect!

We remove the cover, and on there we conveniently draw the connection diagram, year of manufacture and brand of the phone.

The nameplate inside the cover. Telephone unit BAGTA-50, 1963 onwards

I’m sincerely interested in what the Central Bank SPECIAL means .

We put the lid aside and see the following picture: the lion's share of the space is occupied by the bell, the terminal block is located at the bottom right, there are two wires at the input - the handset on the left (before rework), the telephone network on the right.

    Basement

A special fat that the cellar of the phone is made of steel! What adds color to the phone, weight and turns it into a dangerous weapon :))). The only thing that is painted with some kind of country is paint that dissolves in isopropyl alcohol (along with the parsing, I wiped it).

We unscrew the only two screws, and remove the basement from the carbolite body. On the other side of the basement is red crap (I think the transformer) , as I was told, is an isolation capacitor, and a disconnector tongue. Shrink hanging on the wires. Judging by the fact that in 1963 there was no heat shrink, the phone was being repaired nowadays. The

inner side of the basement is

    another perspective

In the plastic part, we see the mechanism of the numerator. I tried to remove it twenty times, but everything turned out not to be of high quality, so what is the

reason for the Numeric dialer .

Unfortunately, the dial back dial is stuck. Liters of isopropyl, and then greases poured onto bearings and gears, cleaning the already clean gears did not lead to anything: ((((. The

dialer can also be unscrewed and removed. And completely disassembled. It is interesting that the numbers are printed on an aluminum plate and completely over the years the Numerator did not

wipe themselves off before the final cleaning

After a thorough isopropyl wipe of all the nooks and crannies of the phone, I decided to change the tube wire to something more fun. Since I do not have the original wire, I took it from the keyboard. It turned out very authentic. I really blunted the circuit at two o’clock in the morning, but I did everything. The

    final version The

microphone does not work yet, I ’m thinking of making a small circuit to forget the carbon microphones forever and put on an “eternal” dynamic microphone.

To connect it to our network, I had to collect just such a parsley

    Kolkhoz.

As a result, you can enjoy a pleasant call and a beep in dynamics. Especially for this, I even shot a video. Unfortunately, the sound of the speaker is not very audible, but believe me - it is. Ringing test - everything works, it rings (or rings).

By the way, for reference, I was always very interested: why are letters placed on the dialers (by the way, in both our and Western phones)? It turns out that this is the type of ability to dial a number not only digitally, but also literally (easy to remember). In my opinion it is very inconvenient. I see no problem remembering a ten-digit number.

The phone went just in perfect condition. It seems that it was used extremely rarely. The inside was clean enough, the inside of my cell phone is dirtier. I thought he would be smeared in death, it turned out not. Although there were still traces of the old owner (I carefully destroyed them with isopropyl). The funny irony is that the former owner is most likely not alive, and the phone is there, it works and will still work!

    I bow to this.
