Guido van Rossum moved from Google to Dropbox
Guido van Rossum, the author of the Python programming language, spent the last day at Google on Friday , and will be enrolled in Dropbox from January. Dropbox executives happily welcome Guido. They call him an old friend who helped create Dropbox “from the first lines of code” ( dropbox.py ).“From the very beginning, it was clear that Dropbox should support all major operating systems. Historically, such support required serious efforts from developers: since each platform requires different development tools and programming languages, I had to rewrite the same code several times, says Dropbox founder Drew Houston on the official blog. - We did not have time for this. Fortunately, the Python programming language has become our salvation. ”
“A few years before [before the founding of Dropbox],” continues Drew Houston, “Python has become my favorite programming language because of its combination of simplicity, flexibility and elegance . These qualities of Python, as well as community efforts to support each platform, allowed us to write code once, which then worked everywhere. They also influenced Dropbox’s broader design philosophy as a simple product that makes your life easier.
Five years have passed since the first version of our prototype was saved to disk as dropbox.py, since then Guido himself and the Python community have helped us a lot to solve some interesting problems in creating a web application for 100 million users.
So we welcome Guido to Dropbox with admiration and appreciation. ”
Dropbox with 250 employees is considered a small company, by the standards of American IT, compared to Apple, Google and Facebook.
