Errors on Habré and how to get rid of them

    We all make mistakes:
    - grammatical;
    - stylistic;
    - technical, like these large pictures

    As a result, the discussion of errors results in a branch of comments, for which the meaning of the article is lost, and the author gets cons because of carelessness, not even understanding what they want from him, because they set cons without commenting on the reason.

    The purpose of this article:
    - to eliminate errors in the texts;
    - make a portrait of the Habr reader;
    - improve the quality of articles.

    Often people run under the scissors to put a minus for the error that distorted them in the first paragraph of the article.

    It seemed that Habr is a party of specialists who share their thoughts or ideas, discuss them, think how to do something one way or another, find a solution to a painful problem. And of course, sometimes laugh at something funny.
    But it turned out that this is not entirely true. We have to observe that a witty commentary on a mistake by the author of a topic or other commentary has more weight than the entire article under discussion.
    Often the discussion of an article goes by the wayside, and something valuable is lost in a heap of unnecessary words.

    Now closer to the topic of how to eliminate errors.
    I had one suggestion on a small change in the interface to a person close to something unusual, like a UFO (as I thought):
    Often, when reading the stories of the authors on Habré, you see errors in the text.
    Sometimes there are a lot of them and such stories do not cause anything positive.
    Often stories are very interesting and try to help correct random single errors, but for this you need:
    1. Remember where this error is in the text. With a large volume, for this, after reading, it is necessary to run through the text again.
    2. Write a letter to the author: to do this, many actions that you do not always want.

    Sentence.
    Change the interface so that actions to indicate an error are performed with a maximum of a couple of mouse clicks.
    For example, select the error fragment and select “Error” from the context menu.
    Or select and press any button.
    Or run this proposal for discussion by Habr, users will offer another option for highlighting errors.

    In the future, what was identified as an error falls to the author - either in the form of a message from the administration, or in a personal account, or is added to some button in the article that the author sees.
    You can also discuss this point.

    Then the texts will be better and error correction will accelerate.
    Indications of errors in the text will leave comments.
    Very often you can observe how good the content of the text goes into minus due to grammar and controversy in the comments.
    Perhaps something similar is already on Habré and I just don’t know about it?

    The answer was this:
    We already have a well-thought-out idea on this issue and soon we will begin to implement it;)

    Quite a lot of time has passed, the change occurred only in the ability to edit the comment, but this did not solve the problem.
    If the author made a mistake and did not see it within 3 minutes, then the error and its discussion remain.

    Therefore, another cardinal proposal appeared: to eliminate errors in principle .
    When writing an article / comment, when an error occurs, the word is underlined by a red line. But many people do not see this because of inattention, rush or not enough bold line when underlining.

    It is necessary to modify the interface so that, in principle, it does not skip an article / comment in the presence of a spelling error.
    In those few cases when a person deliberately writes with ashipka, the author ticks off that he is familiar with the warning, and the article / commentary is published.

    Technical errors, as in the case of placing pictures of huge size, can also be eliminated at the stage of writing the article. The fact that Google Reader (possibly some other system) does not reduce the size of the pictures is not known to everyone, so you can immediately automatically notify the author about this at the posting stage and get his decision. The author agrees with this warning or not, this is his problem.

    Now let's move on to the estimates. For many people it is often not clear why this or that rating is given. Well, if a person commented on his decision, but in most cases, the ratings are put just like that, without explanation, even after the author’s request.
    The reasons for this or that assessment can be understood if the following is done.
    When you try to put a plus or minus for an article, comment or karma, an additional menu appears (or somehow differently) that contains (you need to think about which items to include in different cases, I put a small amount for example):
    - content;
    - usefulness / worthlessness;
    - novelty / button accordion;
    - very competently / errors;
    - it is very necessary / no one needs;
    - I am for this / I am an opponent of the like;
    - many letters;
    - few letters;
    - I forgive from the sandbox / it is unforgivable;
    - another.

    Also, when viewing an article or comment, it is not clear whether the rating changed or not?
    The changed assessment can be distinguished (by color, size, fat content, dullness) so that it can be seen: this is zero from birth or is the result of a struggle of opinions.

    As a result, each assessment will be disclosed: for what and by what criteria.
    When hovering over the rating, it will become clear by what parameters the article / commentary is good or bad.
    But in addition, a portrait of readers will be revealed and it will become clear what they want and what they are striving for.

    Stylistic errors remain, but there is no solution yet.

    Thus:
    - grammar errors are excluded;
    - the comment branch and disputes over errors disappear;
    - the discussion is moving into a more productive channel;
    - the quality of articles and, consequently, the prestige of Habr is increasing.
