Unambiguous layout switch

So what is the problem with the usual ways to switch layouts? The fact that they are made according to the residual principle - a switching method was needed, and the 101-key keyboard was already the standard. For English-speaking problems, of course, no. But everyone else had to learn Shift-Ctrl.
When it is possible not to comply with the standards, there is no problem - we add the RUS-LAT button, and the problem is solved:

    What about the rest?

In my opinion, the standard way has a bunch of flaws. This is the need to press two buttons at the same time, and two options - Shift + Alt and Shift + Ctrl. The most unpleasant thing is that you need to KNOW the layout before switching, otherwise nothing will work out - the combination changes the layout depending on the current one.

Okay, let's say the first problem we solve - hang up switching the layout to CAPS LOCK, anyway it is not used.
For Windows, you can use a carriage of various utilities, for example Punto, which in addition to automatic switching can reassign combinations to switch layouts.

For Mac OS, there is a wonderful Lipton layout , which not only makes it possible to switch the layout by capsule, but also leaves an active light bulb, which is now an indicator for entering Russian letters:

But still, this is not the case. Yes, it’s much easier to look at the light bulb than in the tray, it can be seen even with side vision, at the “on-off” level, but the most important problem is saved - to switch to the necessary layout we still need to know its current state.

The solution is to use several buttons, each for its own layout. Yes, yes, like this:

For Windows, this can be done using the same Punto Switcher:

For Mac OS, use the KeyRemap4MacBook program : The

result should be this option - when typing in another language, you just need to press the right or left Ctrl (or Cmd ), regardless of which layout was previously included. For me, this scenario is much more convenient than switching over the capsule, with which I lived for more than 5 years.

A very interesting topic in the sandbox with the same ideas.
