Another interesting cloud service with 15Gb of free disk space

I read recently a fresh review of the MacBook Pro Retina 2012 from a notorious blogger.
And I came across the mention of an interesting 4Sync service. I got on Habrahabr to read reviews about this service, and ... I didn’t find anything (although judging by the mentions on the Internet, it seems to have existed for a long time ).

Actually, then let's see what it is

The service is the brainchild of the file-sharing service www.4shared.com , with all that it implies the removal of restrictions of 200 megabytes per file, and it seems to be canceled / lower restrictions on the speed of downloading / uploading, in any case, during the testing process the speed shown by the 4sync client was 15-24 megabits / sec, when downloading several full iso-images with ubunta found on the computer.

Getting to the site of the service, we see a brief description of the service, telling us about the opportunity to get free 15 gigabytes of cloud space and an offer to download the program.
You can register for the service through the site by entering the email address and the desired password, then indicate your name and but until you confirm your address, you cannot use the service.
Also through the program, the story with activation is the same.

You can log in to the program using your existing 4shared account.
By the way, a confirmation message came to my rambler-mail about an hour later, after the request, maybe I was just out of luck. The notification came to Google mail immediately.

What do we have when receiving an account?

15 Gigabytes of disk space, a rather convenient web interface, the standard interface for working with the cloud on a computer that is familiar to many standard built-in Explorer. (True, for some reason, I checked the completion of uploading to the service right away, although the file still downloads).
Clients for Windows, Linux, Mac beta, as well as mobile clients: Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian.

By the way, the site’s interface is somewhat similar to dropbox, but inside - the web interface is completely different, more like the evernote web interface.

To get a link to a file, just select it in the web interface or right-click in the explorer and select the corresponding item in me - this is all standard. I did not find the opportunity to get a direct link to the file, so using the service as a small picture hosting does not work.

    Download via torrents

But then - it is possible to get a link to a whole folder , leave comments on files, as well as for premium users to download the contents of folders using torrent networks or as a zip archive.

By the way, for single torrent files, the link can be obtained not by premium, or even by simply not registered users.

A premium user can be anyone who wants to get more disk space , of course for money.
Although you can see such a sign in your account settings , it seems to me that this information is taken from the main 4shared.com service, because I didn’t see any speed limits, and there seems to be no advertisement either (apart from the McAfee that they distribute, including with the installer).
Although it may happen in the future with increasing popularity, and downloading automatically - these will be the very direct links. On the other hand, during the existence of the service, would this inaccuracy be corrected if this were so?

If someone can confirm or refute this fact - I will be glad to supplement the post.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this service. In particular, I was attracted by the opportunity to give a link to a folder with all the features of the service, and downloading a file using torrent networks. Indeed, in the case of downloading a somehow widespread file - the same image or distribution, or a movie - other storage media will also pick up the distribution.

There is one caveat when creating public folders - you should pay attention to it, otherwise you can lose the files put in the specified folder, or get something that you don’t want, including a virus. Copying a public link to a folder - it automatically becomes public. Fully publicly accessible. You can rename it, create many other folders in it - load anything you want into it, and if you guess with the name of neighboring shared folders - you can change them too (existing folders there by default).
In order to cut such raspberries, you need to right-click on the folder in the web interface to change its properties. Everything is already very simple there, you can give rights only to read, add, change, etc.
But the opportunity to give someone (whom you really want, for example with a password) the ability to download directly to your computer while you do not have the file you need is still a convenient option. The main thing is to use the provided mechanism correctly.

Who also tried and wants to share their impressions - welcome to the discussion.

UPD: Yes, when receiving a link to a file via the web interface - there is a “direct link” link, when you click on it it is proposed to purchase a premium account:

UPD2: Removed links from the post. Opening shared access to the folder allows you to change the contents in it at the discretion of even unregistered users.
Keep this in mind when publishing links to folders on public resources.

UPD3: Added details about changing permissions on public folders.

UPD4: A free account is deleted when inactive for 180 days. Therefore, at least once every half a year, you need to go to the site, or run the program. ( more . thanks for the tip of Dreammaker )
