Little-known sports, like non-mainstream technologies and frameworks, unite people around themselves much more strongly than their more popular counterparts. And it’s nice to be part of a particular subculture or evangelist of such a technology - virtual friends around the world will make traveling much more interesting.
One of the July weekends in Odessa hosted the Ultimate Frisbee Beach Championship of Ukraine - this is, at first glance, an event little known to ordinary people and led Lukas Kahwe Smith to Ukraine - Symfony "Best Evangelist" according to the "Symfony Community Awards 2011 " . Being a rather sociable and active networker, Lucas happily agreed to combine business with pleasure and even more enjoyable - and shared his technical knowledge with Kiev and Odessa residents at Ciklum Speakers' Corner.
Lucas's technical biography is quite rich: he was a co-release manager for PHP 5.3 . Now he is one of the developers of Symfony2, PHPCR / Jackalope and also a contributor to Doctrine and other open source projects. For many years, he has spoken with enviable frequency at conferences around the world - but even in this he is a true innovator. In recent years, he has not used slides in his performances. That is how events took place in Siklum on July 6 in Odessa and July 10 in Kiev. And what is the result? A great. More than 120 people who attended the event in Kiev were in good shape throughout the evening, and Lucas received such a drive from the audience that instead of the standard hour-long training, he showed new chips for more than 2 hours and answered questions from guys from the Ukrainian Symfony community. The participants were pleased, seized the initiative and quickly organized an after-party with Lucas to discuss everything from symphony to Frisbee. Siklum believes in just such a free exchange of knowledge and actively supports the IT communities of Ukraine and neighboring countries, regularly providing a platform for their development and inviting interesting and vibrant speakers for the exchange of experience and knowledge.
Lucas continued his Frisbee journey to Russia to participate in the next championship. Let no other meetings be planned with the Symfony community on this trip - excellent impressions and a lot of new acquaintances will be his fair wind for new victories.
