You can go to jail for 15 years for using Google Talk or Skype

According to Reporters Without Borders , Ethiopia has brutally censored the Internet. Blocked Tor network, as well as all VoIP services, including Skype and Google Talk. This was made possible due to the fact that Ethio Telecom is the only provider in Ethiopia.

The reason for the blocking of the Tor network was a state initiative to protect against pornography. Thanks to the implementation of Deep Packet Inspection, Ethiopian authorities were able to completely cut off their population from the Tor network, and the guys from the Tor Project are looking for work-around to get around the ban.
As for VoIP, at the end of May the government ratified a new law, according to which all IP-telephony software and hardware are subject to state regulation, and violation of the conditions is prosecuted under a law providing up to 15 years in prison. This law was passed, as the authorities explained, as one of the components of the protection of state communication providers. In fact, according to the OpenNet Initiative report, Ethiopia has a widespread practice of filtering opposition sites. Due to the encryption of the protocols, it becomes incredibly difficult to monitor the communication of those who are objectionable, therefore, in Ethiopia, the security forces have chosen to completely prohibit such traffic with a criminal article indiscriminately who and with whom is talking.
