Ultrabooks at Computex 2012

Having overcome flight delays, jets and the wild Taiwanese heat, Nomobile finally got to the Computex 2012 exhibition. Here we found a sea of ultrabooks, the most interesting of which we are in a hurry to tell!

    Gigabyte x11

The Gigabyte brand is not as famous in Russia as she would have liked, but after Computex 2012 the level of recognition will rise every 50 times - everyone is interested in a laptop with the signature “The Lightest on Earth”.

    image

The Gigabyte X11 is an 11.6-inch black laptop with island-style keys and a matte screen. The case is made using carbon and aluminum, the thickness varies from a minimum of three to 16 millimeters in the thickest place, and the weight is a record, according to Gigabyte, 975 grams.

The laptop - although it would seem that by all characteristics it is an ultrabook - runs on third-generation Core i5 or i7 processors, is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD drive. The laptop screen has a modest, by today's standards, resolution 1366x768.

The X11 housing housed USB 3.0 and 2.0 connectors, mini DisplayPort, an audio jack and a microSD card slot.

It is reported that X11 will be sold for $ 999 in the minimum configuration and for $ 1299 for the version with a Core i7 processor.

    Toshiba U840W

In addition to the largest tablet, Computex 2012 features the longest ultrabook in the world. The 14.4-inch Toshiba U840W, despite the reservation in the video, has a display resolution of 21: 9.

    image

U840W is an ultrabook for moviegoers. It is with a resolution of 21: 9 that films are shown in most movie theaters in the world. “W” in the name means “widescreen”, that is, widescreen. The diagonal of the display of the unusual U840W is no less unusual 14.4 inches.

Inside the ultrabook, an Ivy Brigde processor and 6 GB of RAM, 500 GB of hard drive, combined with a 32 GB SSD. As well as a Blu-ray drive, Harman Kardon speakers and an almost complete set of required ports.

The cost of the U840W will be "about $ 1,000."

    Samsung 900X4C

We are already familiar with this comrade: he first appeared at CES 2012. But only by the summer of Samsung finalized the 900X4C so that it could be shown to everyone and not put a special person next to it.

    image

The 900X4C is Samsung's first 15-inch ultrabook and immediately the thinnest in the world. The device is a representative of the 9th series and it is not surprising that it looks very similar to the 13-inch model. The 900X4C's aluminum casing is 14.9 mm thick and weighs 1.65 kg.

This ultrabook was given a powerful filling: third-generation Core i5 and i7 processors, 8 GB of RAM and an SSD drive. The graphics, however, are built-in - Intel HD 4000. The

display of the 900X4C is matte, with a nice thin border and a resolution of 1600x900.

Of the ports: three USB (one of them is version 3.0), microHDMI and miniVGA, a headphone jack, LAN through an adapter and a card reader on the bottom under the plug.

    ASUS TAICHI

ASUS Taichi is the most anticipated Computex 2012 product. The “incredible innovation” was announced a week before the exhibition, and the novelty, in general, met all expectations.

The mechanism for turning ASUS TAICHI into a tablet is extremely simple: you just need to close it.

Ultrabook will be available in two versions: 13.3 - and 11.6-inch. Each of them is equipped with two identical Super IPS + displays with a plague resolution of 1900x1280.

Inside the ultrabooks are third-generation Core i7 processors, 4 GB of RAM, SSD drives, two webcams and, of course, Wi-Fi modules. On the case: two USB 3.0 ports, miniVGA and microDVI connectors, a button to turn off the autorotation of the screen and adjust the volume if the gadget works in tablet mode.

TAICHI's island-style keyboard is already familiar from the UX31's ultrabook, as well as backlit.

ASUS does not name the exact weight and thickness of the ultrabooks, but claims that they are as thin and light as the Zenbook range.

    Fujitsu Lifebook UH572

In March, at CeBIT, we were shown only non-working prototypes, literally mockups without filling. But a couple of months later, quite functional devices were brought to Computex.

    image

In general, there are two models: 13- and 14-inch. In size, they differ little from each other (however, the 13-inch is heavier (!) By 100 grams). The main differences in the colors and materials of the case. The case of the younger Lifebook Ultrabook is made of aluminum and silver. The 14-inch model is made of magnesium and painted red. The first weighs 1.6 kg., The second - 1.5 kg. The thickness of ultrabooks is 16 mm.

Ultrabook displays are made according to, apparently, LG Shuriken technology familiar to us - we already saw this in Acer 8481. It looks good even when turned off

    image
Another distinctive feature is the presence of a fingerprint scanner. Only Toshiba Z830 has such a

display angle of 180 degrees. Hello Ultrabook ThinkPad!
