Most popular domain name elements
The authors of the LeanDomainSearch domain name generator conducted a study of the composition of domain names.
The subject of study was more than 50 million domain names in the zone .COM. Based on what words are included in the domain name, a list of the most popular prefixes and suffixes, i.e. elements that are located respectively at the beginning and at the end of a domain name. An analysis was also made of the subject matter of websites based on the composition of domain names.
For a more accurate determination of minor elements, LeanDomainSearch was searched for the 1000 most frequent queries of customers who wanted to choose a domain name (seo, coffee, etc.). These queries were taken as the root of the domain name, to which prefixes and suffixes were added.
Most often, domain names begin with the words
1. My
2. The
3. Web
4. Go
5. Super
And end with the words
1. Online
2. Web
3. Media
4. World
5. Net
The most common word in all domain names turned out to be the word "Online".
A complete list of 5,000 popular consoles and suffixes can be found here .
Pose this LeanDomainSearch compiled a rating of those websites that are located on the studied domain names. The subject of the domain name was revealed by cutting off the most popular consoles and suffixes from it. For example, there are many domains ending in online: newyorkonline, playonline, etc. By removing the suffix, we get the website theme: newyork, play.
Of course, in such a mechanical way it is not always possible to identify an element of a domain name that reveals its topic. The results of the study clearly included many secondary elements, but, nevertheless, they turned out to be very interesting. The most popular sites topics were:
1. web
2. net
3. art
4. tech
5. cloud
6. shop
7. home
8. media
9. world
10. pro
11. design
12. mobile
13. life
14. city
15. tv
16. blog
17. travel
19. online
20. it
The position of the word “cloud” was especially unexpected. It is not included in the list of the most common words, but if you drop the prefix and the suffix, it turns out that the clouds, or rather, cloud technologies, are one of the most popular site topics. In any case, just such a conclusion can be drawn from the analysis of the composition of domain names.
A list of the 10,000 most popular topics is available on the LeanDomainSearch website .
