Service for more efficient replenishment of English words
I want to introduce a small service that was created to help in effectively replenishing the vocabulary for the English language: In short, it works as follows. 1. You download the text you want to read. This can be the URL of an article from the Internet, a book or an article in pdf, doc, txt, ps or subtitles. 2. The system builds statistics of words and displays words sorted by frequency of use in the text. Preliminarily, lemmatization is applied to the words (i.e., the words make and made will be considered identical). 3. You mark familiar words as well as words that you need to learn . 4.

You will print the words that you need to learn in a format convenient for you (including with a short English-Russian translation, i.e., not a complete dictionary entry).
I would like to draw attention to some features of the system.
1. For 50,000 words, we have short translations into Russian. This is when for each word you are provided not with a long dictionary entry (which, of course, also exists), but only with the main meaning, which will work in 90% of cases. It looks something like this:

If this is not enough, you can see the full dictionary entry in the English-Russian, English-English dictionary, as well as on third-party services.
2. The word, once marked as known or as “a word for study”, in another text will retain this status. Thus, once you mark a word, later you do not waste time re-deciding whether to teach it.
It looks like this:

3. Having marked the words for study, they can be (and probably should be!) Printed. We have quite a few print settings. See some examples in PDF:
With a nameplate (short version)
Dictionary articles from the English-Russian dictionary
Dictionary articles from the English-English dictionary
At the end of this article I would like to give links to some word lists:
Basic 400 English Words
1000 complex popular English words (interesting !)
Oxford 3000
The Lord of the Rings
And so on. You can find more examples in the Popular section .
We, the authors of the service, will be happy to receive feedback (including, be sure to write if you try the service, but something will not be enough!)
Our interfaces are, of course, far from perfect (they are quite effective, but some things can immediately be incomprehensible). Please treat this with understanding. Everything will be gradually corrected. But we have a pretty good description of the features of the service on the main page .
