Broadcom has developed a chipset with support for NFC and GLONASS for low-cost mobile devices

Apparently, the market for budget smartphones continues to grow, and quite actively. Of course, since there is a demand, there is a supply, and manufacturers offer a variety of solutions for this market. So, the company Broadcom recently introduced a chip for budget smartphones that supports NFC technology, as well as GPS and GLONASS.

The development is called BCM21552G, and it all works on the basis of an ARM 11 processor with an operating frequency of 1 GHz, which is very good on budget smartphones. In addition, this development includes a 3G modem, the ability to support two SIM cards at once. According to the developers, BCM21552G is able to cope with rather “heavy” graphics, so it turned out to be something like a universal hardware platform for cell phones. Interestingly, the development from Broadcom also includes two wireless modules, it is dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. A good budget smartphone, what do you think?

As for NFC, this newfangled technology, which is becoming increasingly popular, is supported by the Broadcom BCM20791 controller. At the moment, the number of mobile phone models that support NFC is very small, but manufacturers are trying to correct this omission - because the technology is becoming more popular among users.

In general, the development is presented, and everything looks pretty good, but the exact timing of the start of mass production of this chip, unfortunately, is not known. But if the chip goes “to the people”, then the smartphones of the middle and lower price segments will become quite functional. Of course, older models will develop, nothing stands still, but still the budget smartphone will not be as budgetary as you can judge.
