Startup without pink glasses
Hello, Habralyudi! Many people write about their successful startups, as a result of which many beginner startups see the world of startups in rainbow colors, but I want to tell an instructive story of one interesting startup I didn’t realize (bootstrapping) so that newcomers like me do not step on the rake (at least mine).
In the fall of this year, I decided to buy a netbook (for work and study) and first I discovered the great Google in order to find a suitable model in the city’s online stores, which, by the way, turned out to be quite small. The model was chosen, the next task that bothered me was to find a store in which the price for it would be minimal. The next day, full of energy, I went to computer shops. Having lost almost the whole day and almost all my physical and moral strengths, I still bought what I wanted. Tired, but happy, I walked home, thinking about how good it would be if there was such a service on the Internet that collected information about prices in stores for goods and sorted by price! So, in fact, the idea of a startup was born.
And then I asked all friends in touch whether such a service would be useful to them and whether they would use it. The result met expectations - most of the friends responded positively. Inspired by this, I, without delaying the time, started to implement the idea (by the way, on that same netbook). Joyful thoughts revolved around how everything would be, imagined utopian (unfortunately) pictures of thesite page with reviews of satisfied users, etc. The search for like-minded friends among programmers ended in epic fail, but this did not upset me very much, in the wake of joyful thoughts, I thought that I would do everything myself.
After a week and a half, the result was a service that, in my opinion, was already ready for testing by users.
What was in it: categories of goods with photos and descriptions, user registration (two types: user and organization), including login through social. networks, top stores with the best prices (users could vote, which affected the store’s rating) for each product, comment, city (when choosing a city, only the city’s stores were displayed accordingly), adding goods and stores by registered users, social buttons. networks.
Then I took up the addition of goods and promotion. I was abootstrapper alone, I had no finances, two months of work alone, in principle, did not produce any results - 10 people a day had a maximum, not a single product or store added by users, not a single comment. Then my hands fell, I was not going to ask investors for money or to take a loan - apparently, I still was not sure of success. The project was successfully abandoned by me until the “better times”.
And the moral is: “one is not a warrior in the field” - firstly , you need support (even just moral) for undertaking at least 2-3 people - secondly , money, of course, is not important, but without them, nowhere is the third .
PS: I do not pretend to be true in the first istan, but I hope it was useful to you. Ready to listen to your criticism, take note. If there are people who are interested in this idea, grab it, for me personally, the need for such a service has not disappeared. I’m not going to take it again.
