Adobe discontinues development of mobile Flash Player
Sources close to Adobe said the company is stopping further development of the Flash Player plugin for mobile browsers. The Adobe Partner Mailing List says the following:
“In the future, our support for Flash for mobile will focus on helping developers create native apps using Adobe AIR for all major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for new browsers, OS versions, and mobile device configurations. Some of our source code licenses allow further work and the release of our own implementations. We will continue to support current Android and PlayBook configurations with the release of critical patches and security updates. ”
Instead of Flash Player, Adobe will focus on releasing a platform for mobile applications, interactive content for desktops (both inside the browser and beyond), and will also increase investment in HTML5.
The corresponding announcement will be published today on the official Adobe website.
