Smartphone on a surf, starry sky and other projects of Xperia Studio

They say that in modern phones there are so many functions that using them all is unrealistic. Often it happens, but this is not only a drawback - the technical and communication capabilities of smartphones overtake the needs of users, which opens up scope for creativity. Half marketing, half art project of Xperia Studio is devoted to new and original ways of using Xperia phones - in science, art, entertainment. The project is a site where the stories of scientists, artists, athletes and musicians gather, in which Sony Ericsson phones played a role.

The most interesting of them, in my opinion, is the Invisible Universe application developed by Joshua Peak from Columbia University. Its main advantage is that everyone can use the result of his work - just download the program. Dr. Peak wanted to make it possible to see other people the beauty of the cosmos surrounding us, and he created an application that demonstrates all the invisible beauty of the sky with a simple eye: in gamma rays, x-rays, optical, infrared and radio range.

Unfortunately, simply looking through the lens at the outside world will not work. The application operates with ready-made huge complete maps of the sky, compiled on the basis of data from various types of telescopes - from satellites in orbit of the Earth to giant radio telescopes in Australia, and collected by astronomers around the world. Turning the phone, you can see how the Universe looks from this point of view in gamma rays, X-rays and so on.

A picture can be “zoomed” by approximating and removing star clusters. True, this does not add much clarity - it will not work to find life in the Alpha Centauri system, and to understand that it is unlikely that anyone other than a professional astronomer will be able to. Nevertheless, playing with Invisible Universe is interesting, and thanks to the function of taking screenshots in the latest update of smartphones with Android 2.3, the application can be an excellent source of creative screensavers. Dr. Joshua Peak's phone is Sony Ericsson Xperia arc .

Another joint project of Xperia studio - this time with the art studio Illutron . The guys from the barge off the coast of Copenhagen arranged a three-day Hack-A-Thon, during which they figured out how to manage the possession of several Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY GPS, compass, Wi-Fi, GSM, accelerometers, a touch screen and connection them to the Arduino platform. The results of their work are on video:

By the way, in the latest James Bond movies, Sony Ericsson was also his signature mobile gadget. At Casino Royale, I remember, among other things, he was able to analyze a blood sample and calculate the poison with which the agent was poisoned.

    What else?

Now Xperia Studio has four joint projects: read on the site about Sony Ericsson Xperia neo - an assistant to the surfer, and the music of Parisian streets recorded on the Xperia arc. As the authors of the project promise, this is not all. It is most convenient to follow the updates through Facebook .
