Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 - Attempt No. 2
I’m traveling recently on the subway, and the uncle standing next to me is reading something on Fujitsu Siemens under Windows Mobile. At times, she looks at my tablet on Android with interest ... We talked. While they reached the center, I told me my story of acquaintance with robotic tablets - I did not like it. "Why?" - I ask. He says he held on to the Samsung Galaxy Tab (the very first) - it tupit even stronger than the Windows machine. Well, I told him about the fact that the industry has stepped forward a long time ago, a bunch of other “pills” have appeared, and soon the second version of the seven-inch Tab is coming out - thin, powerful, on the third Android and most importantly - still able to make calls. I didn’t have time any more - my stop was, therefore I tell here.
That first Samsung tablet, although it occasionally catches the eye in public transport, is really hard to call successful. It had several successful solutions, but it lacked performance in order to twist Android 2.x, which, in principle, is not intended for tablets. But the new Galaxy Tab 7.7 is another matter. Well, that is, in theory it should be. In practice, so far everything is not so rosy: the engineering sample, which I spent half a day, with my leisurely hint, to put it mildly, hinted that it was far from being final firmware. But in terms of hardware, everything is just fine: the plague screen Super AMOLED Plus, a powerful processor as part of Samsung Exynos, a GSM module ... However, let's get better in order!
The gadget is similar to both a tablet and a phone. Strongly rounded corners and a large screen speak for the tablet. For the phone - everything else: a speaker for calls, a webcam on the short side of the device, a characteristic backdrop and the location of the control elements. Unless the Home button under the display is missing.
To be honest, I don’t understand how the court could decide to ban sales of 7.7 in most countries of the European Union, because it looks like an iPad. There are a lot of details right there that make it unlike an Apple gadget!
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 screen has a diagonal of 7.7 inches (surprisingly, right? =) And a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. And the last one is really surprising: perhaps only iPhone 4 and Galaxy Note can boast of such a density. Once somewhere on Prospect Mira in the transition from radial to circular, you can reassure yourself that the pixels on the tablet screen are even tighter than you! But then, thanks to these "poor fellow", the picture is juicy and clear.
Unlike models 10.1 and 8.9, the new Seven is built on another chipset - Samsung Exynos, which, for example, runs the Galaxy S II smartphone. For the graphics in the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the Mali-400 chip is responsible. For the speed of the system - a gigabyte of RAM DDR-2. In synthetic tests, this bunch makes NVIDIA Tegra 2, and in practice, there is such a feeling, it solves some problems a little faster. In general, the difference is almost not visible.
As for memory, a Flash array with a capacity of 16 to 64 GB is installed here, and in addition there is the opportunity to expand it using a microSD card.
I can only say one thing about software. The device is running Android 3.2 with the TouchWiz shell. What will be the final set of applications, "we can not predict." Although, judging by the presence of an infrared port, there will most likely be proprietary software for controlling household appliances.
5100 mAh - is it a lot or a little? For the phone, perhaps a lot, but for the tablet? This question could be answered only by driving the gadget for several days. Well, at least a day ... I had only 5 hours to get to know him, during this time he was discharged by 35%, so I can only roughly estimate. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 7000 mAh battery and is enough for 12 hours of active use. But there is a larger screen, it is made using a different (more voracious) technology, and the hardware is not Samsung, but from NVIDIA. In addition, there is in nature a smart Galaxy S II with a 1700 mAh battery, built on the same chipset, only its screen size is half that. From this we can conclude that 7.7 will work for at least 12 hours, and maybe more. Let's hope for the best!
As a competitor, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 now only has HTC Flyer, since all the other seven-inch tablets are in the wrong weight category - their performance is clearly lower.
And no matter how bitter it is for me (a fan of HTC products with experience) to admit, 7.7 still wins against him on points. Flyer can trump and unusual appearance, and the Sense shell, but there is still Android 2.x and a very weak battery. Samsung corny takes technology.
That’s how it looks like Samsung’s second attempt to make a compact tablet. If you close your eyes to still frankly raw software, this time it was clearly better than the first: the gadget has become thinner, more powerful, it now works on the third Android, the phone module remains, the tablet has a good battery ... It’s only about sales. Companies need not to be late with shipment to stores and set an adequate price.
PS Thanks to the unknown companion for the dialogue! I just did not know which lead to write to the material.
